I felt sorry for sonia because her and Nikolai's love was a childhood love. He met Marya and their souls just joined. I think in the whole of the book everyone grew as they got older but sonia, unfortunately, couldn't move on. That's not to denigrate love, but we all grow from our teenage years and realise that we may not really 'love' those we thought we did, but we move on with life and find happiness.

I really feel heartbroken for Sonya, my only consolation is that in this video Nikolai is not as very handsome I imagined him to be in the book (sorry I have very high standards given that this is widely considered the best novel in the world).

He fell in love with her the very best time he saw her 🥰🥰. Sonya was raised like a sister to him , she got jealous when he even talked to another female, extremely clingy etc !!!! So glad he found Princess Marya ☺️💞☺️💞
