So I learned that Mandarin doesn't have indefinite articles ("a" or "an") like English. Instead, it uses classifiers to indicate indefiniteness along with the number "one" (一 yī). For example: * 一个苹果 (yī ge píngguǒ) - one apple (indefinite) * 一本书 (yī běn shū) - one book (indefinite) Classifiers in Mandarin aren't governed by strict rules, but there are some general guidelines: * **Shape:** Classifiers are often based on the shape of the object (e.g., 个 ge for round objects, 本 běn for flat things). * **Material:** Some classifiers indicate the material (e.g., 件 jiàn for clothes, 条 tiáo for long, thin objects). * **Function:** Classifiers can reflect an object's function (e.g., 辆 liàng for vehicles). Learning classifier usage comes with practice and exposure to Mandarin. There are resources like dictionaries and online guides that can help you identify the correct classifier for a noun. -from Gemini

穿 can mean wearing all kinds of clothes/pants/shoes, 戴+hat, earrings, glasses. You cannot say 穿 earrings.
@KiDkoLa8885 ай бұрын
Does this mean it's categorized? For instance, bodily items & accessories vs head & facial dressings? If not then one would need to memorize each item and which word to use, right?
@cora_Chinese5 ай бұрын
@@KiDkoLa888 you are right,The items that are “戴” are mainly located in relatively specific and relatively small parts of the body, such as the head, face, neck, chest, arms, ears, hands, ankles, etc. The items that are “穿” are located in a larger and wider part of the body, such as the upper body, lower body, and feet.
