Thanks as always for a well detailed demo. My bromeliads are potted and were placed among rocks in a specified area but Beryl dismantled it all. I have since placed them on a bench until I can find a suitable area for them and I may just design and prepare a bed around my orange tree for some of them😅. Thanks again for sharing, blessings my friend🥰.

Can I propagate my giant fern by putting a few fronds in water to root?

Hello! The HOA gardeners cut back my beautiful bougainvillea down to the stump. Will it grow back big and beautiful like it was? I'm so upset about it. The color was a beautiful Salmon Pink.
@thelmamccatty91814 күн бұрын
Yes it will grow back (as long as they don't run the lawnmower over it) I know how you felt - a similar accident happened to one of mine about 6 months ago and it started sending out new shoots in a few weeks. Which reminds me that I should make a video about it. Thanks for your question, sorry my response was late in coming. Let us know how your plant responds.

Hi @valdabrown, nice hearing from you. Yes, many persons refer to this plant as 'Easter Lilly' but this is not correct! They are Hippeastrum amaryllis, shortened to 'Amaryllis'. Hopefully, you're planning to expand your collection? We'll be offering lots of new varieties soon.😊

Where in the Caribbean do you live, because I live in Antigua and Barbuda and they tells me it doesn't bear fruit in the Caribbean
@thelmamccatty918120 күн бұрын
We garden in Jamaica - in the central highlands, at about 2000 ft elevation, which means we're cool, relative to Antigua. This, plus locating the plant near to a drain pipe, may explain why my plant fruits often. But I'll admit that it's rare to see a monster deliciosa in fruit - most persons are surprised (and skeptical) that it bears edible fruits!:)

I planted my first Angel Trumpet 2 months ago. It is growing beautifully- tall, green and healthy. Do i need to dig it up and plant in a pot for the winter? . I'm in zone 8a . The currently is 75/50.
@thelmamccatty91814 күн бұрын
Oops, so sorry for my late response, I hope I'm not too late. Angel trumpet can survive outdoors during a mild winter but will be damaged or killed at temperatures below 40 F. If you haven't had your first frost, I suggest you take a few cuttings and set them to root in a bright location indoors so you'll have a lovely plant to take outdoors during spring. You could also protect the existing plant against frost as you would other delicate plants (e.g., trash blanket, and burlap covering). Please let us know how it survives.

THANK YOU, I live in Yukon Ok, and I bought these lovely pots for the first time this summer. I didnt know what to do for the winter? They have done extremely well up until now. I think cause the fall is coming and its starting to get chilly. I was thinking I would have to trash them, and buy new next year?
@gardeningwithcalyx24 күн бұрын
Hello @Maitree15, you’re quite right, in your area, bougainvillea would be killed by cold temperatures if left outdoor during the winter. But don’t trash them! Move them indoors if you have the space in a bright location where temperature stays above 40 degree F. Essentially, you’ll be inducing dormancy, first by removing all flowers; then reducing the size of the plant by pruning back to about half its size (follow tips in video); watering lightly every 2 weeks or so, and with-holding fertilizer. Sure, they’ll drop all their leaves, but they’ll resume growth quickly in spring.

@gardeningwithcalyx24 күн бұрын
Good choice of words! Its possible, but not feasible to grow pineapples in US Zone 8. They do not survive freezing temperatures for long, so you would move them to a sunny spot indoors. Not a comfortable proposition😊

It is normal for a few mature Medinilla leaves to turn yellow and fall off while the plant is blooming. This is because of the plant’s need for more nutrients at this time. But if more than 3 leaves have turned yellow, examine the plant to determine if the soil has been too wet for extended periods, or if it has been too dry, and take the necessary corrective actions. Other possible causes could be sucking pests such as mites, thrips and scales; or exposure to cool air. Follow the tips given in the video and your Medinilla should be fine

Hi Calyx, im keen to hydrangeas in my garden in Kingston. Question: How did you get your hydregeas and from your experience can I grow them in Kingston? Thanks for your help💕🇬🇧🇯🇲
@thelmamccatty9181Ай бұрын
I purchased my first hydrangea plant at the Mandeville Flower a few years ago, but check out plant nurseries in Kingston and you should be able to find it. I've seen it growing very well in St. Andrew (e.g., Manor Park, Liguanea, Red Hills, Stony Hills). If you're at a lower elevation, protect it from too much sunlight and from moisture stress.

Hi Thelma, I love your videos , I mean all of them! My question is, does it matter what kind of bougainvillea we are pruning? I mean , the ones you pruned in these videos, are they some kind of dwarf varieties? I live in Mediterranean climate and we have 2 types here, one goes like a tree or a huge climber bush, and the other one is glow torch. Thanks again for your lovely informative videos, love from Turkey.
@gardeningwithcalyx24 күн бұрын
Hello @ashbalci6808, Wow! its really nice to hear from a subscriber in Turkey! please forgive the long delay in our response. Yes, the type of bougainvillea matters a lot when pruning. You are unlikely to have much success pruning the ‘tree-type’ ones to grow into a compact bushy shape. We have a ‘tree type’ one in our garden and we only prune the side branches and leave the others to grow up to the top of a trellis. We have no ‘dwarf’ types, those in our videos are ‘regular’ ones that we keep pruning to maintain a shorter, bushy shape. But when you do not prune a ‘regular’ one, it too can grow to fantastic heights! We have images of this, which we intend to share in an upcoming video.
@ashbalci680812 күн бұрын
@@gardeningwithcalyx Thank you so much for the detailed explanation Thelma, right now I'm in the process of propagating different colours of 'tree type' by air layering, simple layering and cuttings. I'm curious to see which one(s) are going to succeed. Thanks again, can't wait to see the upcoming video ❤

Hi Thelma I just enjoy watching this video on your courtyard. I am thinking of planting a Palm on the outside of the walkway but I have no idea the name of the Palm I saw a lot of them along some roadways. Do you happen to know the name, please
@gardeningwithcalyx24 күн бұрын
Hi @valdabrown, sorry for the delay in responding, we’ve been busy with the amaryllis. You’ll need to select a small palm for driveway or curbside plantings. Christmas Palm (Adonidia merrillii) would be suitable, and is quite common. You may also use the Areca palm (Chrysalidocarpus lutescens), but should limit it to max 3 stems. Palms that grow short and wide (e.g., sago palm, thatch palms, Washingtonia palm) may impede your movements so its best to avoid them. Hope this helps.
