Hi Mike, I bought a cheapo Chinese carb, everything was actually pretty well made but the metering rod screw wasn’t long enough to properly adjust. So I just bent where the metering rod attaches up to “raise” the initial position of the metering rod. Seems to be proper now.

Great video. If I make those adjustments to secondary and I’m still getting a lean bog when secondaries open, should I straighten the s linkage a little more to try to delay the secondaries opening ??
@MikesCarburetor11 күн бұрын
That would be a last resort. I would go over any adjustments 1st, especially when the secondary opens

on my edelbrock 1403 it has a similar thing, but a different design. Its just dangling around and I am not sure if it works properly. But I cant find how it should look or be adjusted. It does not prevent the secondaries from opening when the choke is closed and it does not necessarily let the secondaries open if the choke is open. Its just dangling around and if the secondaries open is just random.

Im having trouble with mine. Doesn't stay idle when put in gear. I replaced the intake gasket and the top lid, what I'm noticing the idle mixture screws dont do much to the rpms until completely closed. Definitely get air somewhere or can the float do that? I dont smell flooding. The car hasn't drove it years but it was working fine before.
@MikesCarburetorАй бұрын
1st of all when a carb sits for months the gas turns to varnish and coats the inside of the carb. Idle mixture not making a difference is indicative of a problem somewhere. Probably a plugged idle tube.

Mike! Please help!! I have a 1965 scout international with the 1904 carburator. When I was removing my carburator for cleaning, the jet that screws into the gas inlet has gone missing. It's the little brass piece that screws inside the float bowl before you screw in the gas fitting. Do you happen to know the sizing or have a replacement I could buy? Thank you in advance!

Ok, my carb has no passage where the ball and weight go. However, I removed a hex shaped weight that had a rubber recessed tip on one end. There were also 2 balls, one for the accelerator pump and one for the dashpot. I don't believe there was a ball in the hole for the spark valve, but it's possible that the weight could have fallen out of this passage. Anyone have experience with this setup who can confirm or refute my thoughts?
@alansullivan6613Ай бұрын
Hey, Mike - great video. At about 8:16 when installing the venturi cluster you mention "this is where the bigger check ball goes". Did you mean to say the smaller check ball? Doesn't the bigger check ball go under the vacuum pump?
@MikesCarburetorАй бұрын
Generally the bigger check ball goes in the main discharge. The smaller is for under the pump.

Hi mike. I already bought some stuff from your page. But right now I'm having issues with the carb. It's flooding and I notice that the clip that came with the carb rebuild kit get stuck with the pin that make the carb rotate. It would be any problem if I don't set a clip to the float needle?? I'm working on a rochester 2gv
@MikesCarburetorАй бұрын
The clip (float to needle) is necessary to keep the needle from sticking closed. Try to use it if you can.

Thanks Mike! I have seen accelerator pumps that are operated by a rod, but I haven't seen one that is vacuum operated. My 1986 F-150 started coughing and sputtering (and sometimes stalling) when I tried to accelerate. I took the top off and could not figure out how that pump operated! You explained it! Thank you. I took the pump system apart (and cleaned the metering rod) cut a nick into the base gasket that was pushing up into the vacuum orifice, put it back together, and it worked! It took a few cycles of accelerating to work smoothly (I think the pump needed to fill with fuel?) Thank you, Paul P.S. it was a cheap chinese knock off !

I have fuel leaking from my choke pull off vacuum port what could cause this? Ive been through the carb and has been doing great and now shakes bad at idle in gear and thats the only thing Ive found but I dont understand where or how it would be leaking into that actuator. Thanks for any help or advice! Love your videos!
@MikesCarburetorАй бұрын
The vacuum port is separated from any gas passage so my best guess is that a gasket is allowing gas into the vacuum port. Follow the vacuum passage to see where it meets the gasket. Probably the throttle body gasket.

Hi Mike I have a what I think is a 2gv. The choke has a rod going to the manifold. I wanted to put an accelerator pump. It has no ball in the pump cylinder. The pump appears to go down in the boar farther than the slot in the side of the cylinder. Gas does not refill. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

As the pump pulls up the gas is filled. Please read this page for pump information: www.carburetor-parts.com/2-jet-accelerator-pump-circuit

I have this same carb. Is there a way to get more fuel in my float? My car will die indefinitely but if I take it for a drive it will die within 10 minutes and won’t start again unless I let it sit.
@MikesCarburetor2 ай бұрын
Let it idle an look down the carb. If you see gas dribbling from the venturi then the main discharge is leaking into the intake. I doubt it is not enough gas but more likely too much.
