My boyfriend and I went camping last night and I woke up at midnight to hear this exact noise right outside the tent. It was so close I thought it was my boyfriend at first, it sounded like the noise was right next to me and I thought he was having a bad dream. So I turned to wake him up and realized he was already awake and there was a bull moose right outside our tent. We lay low for a while with the gun close by just in case, listened in terror until it went away, and then we decided to sleep in the car. Does anyone have advice for what we should have done had it stuck around, or if it would have ever gotten aggressive with two sleeping humans in a tent? I'm still kind of freaking out and I'm not sure if his gun would have done much had it come to that, honestly.

Not angry, smart and defeated. He's not dominate bull or just crossed major water. He's lame in the beginning. Watch his walk. Moose aren't long distance critters on the run. He's sore. You messed up on calls. Your light brushing and soft cow were semi okay. But hard raking and loud cow calls at the end what spooked him. That along if he caught sight/wind of you. No cow bellows like that when bull is that close raking. Seen more moose spooked on loud cow calls up close than ever drawn in. If you really want to draw them in. Get a recording of them actually mating. Duplicate when required by law. Quite hilarious. Sounds messy . Leave it at that. That will draw biggest bulls and voyeurs. Moose largest species of the deer family. They big ones don't get that big by being stupid. Rack size genetics usually based on environmental factors. Same as body. Counter intuitive in some cases. Environment can require big body mass to survive harsh winter's. Antlers are secondary. Depends on food sources. Hunting can play a role as well. Pure science. Keep taking the biggest and the best.
