These bells are nice and have tuned up nicely, no doubt a Nigel Taylor tuning job. I do love 10 bell ring probably the most.

Some beautiful well struck ringing on beautiful bells. Is this St Andrews the 1956 Taylor 8? Something I have often wondered, has anybody every tried method ringing with closed leads like Devon call changes. The Devon ringers do strike well but then they dont need ropesight. It would be intering to hear wwhat it would sound like although I do like the open leads. The ringing room is bit i. Your face with the colours.

May I ask where was the Tenor made?
@greencamel2
@greencamel2 7 ай бұрын
The tenor was made by Christopher Hodson in 1693. I don't know if there's a record of exactly where it was made - at the time it was common, especially for large bells, for them to be cast on-site. If you are interested in further information, it's possible that either the Durham Cathedral Bell Major or one of the Stewards of Dove's Guide for Church Bell Ringers will be able to help.

Hi Dave, is there a written method anywhere that can be viewed that you used for this? Bob

Interesting question! There were a few sheets which described the rough gist of what we would be doing, but I don't think I ever saw the final 'performance' version of the instructions. If you can see the monitor between the 9 and 10, that's roughly how the instructions were written out - i.e. a grid with the expected bells ringing in each row. Of course, the subtlety is getting that back into the directions that the conductor gives - I think that did end up as a printed script for them. There was a 'Britney Spears microphone' arrangement available for the conductor, but I don't think it was being used on this occasion.

I was reading up on Wikipedia shut this and there is posted an "External Links" to this video. I had no idea, until after reading the info on Wikipedia this morning, that Bell Ringing can and must in certain circumstances be ring at least in 50,000 different rings to be proper. That AMAZES me! Thank you for posting this video; it is quite interesting to me (especially after reading of the vastness in scale that can be brought forth from a true "Ring of Bells". Amazing, simply and utterly amazing!

@Steven_Rowe
@Steven_Rowe 4 жыл бұрын
@@RohrDC a good question to ask so I am assuming you may not be a ringer. Each bell should sound one after another. Also equal spacing in time between the bells Even when they change into different sequence this is the same. Clipping is when bell bell strike way to close to the preceding bell. Everytime you ring you want it to be perfect, but of course we know perfection is hard to a achieve. The worst case scenario is when two bells ring at exactly the same time. Still a great question I think.

Is the tenor up wrong?
@greencamel2
@greencamel2 8 жыл бұрын
+Timothy Garrison It's very unlikely. It's a little sad that the clapper is hidden in the top-down view, however, if the bell were up wrong you'd be able to see the clapper in the side-on view of the tenor (top right image). I appreciate it's not very clear, but I'm pretty sure the clapper (also painted blue) is not visible there.

The purpose of ringing the bells down is to make them safe - hanging with the bells at the bottom of the wheel. The ringing room is on the ground floor of the church, so it's really important to make sure that if someone were to grab a rope by accident nothing bad would happen to them!
