Fishing the cape for the first time what size braided line should I use.

30# braid is great all around for the Cape. I even use it in the canal. Just be sure to bump up your leader material to 40# or 50# if you're planning on fishing around rocks!

Glad you enjoyed fishing here.nice work leaving those stripers in the water. I'm in Duxbury I fish 4 everything on cape cod on the boat. Searching 4 die hard local fisherman to catch with. Oh shoot!!!! Just recognized who you are. Saw you at menahaunt Beach early mornings. Forget it Enjoy the boat fishing with your coleagues. 😂so funny Stay tight

That's a great spot to fish - been landing a bunch there again this year. maybe ill see you out there sometime. (for all those asking, i won't give the spot away, but i think it's fine to say it's cape cod.)

I have a river next to my house and supposedly there are some big fish in there. I bought a lure similar to that one but it floats a lot. Did you put a weight on yours or is the floating good?
@andrewburke2825
@andrewburke2825 9 ай бұрын
If it's calm water without a lot of current, floating is good. I like sinking poppers when fishing in current or big waves, but it's the popper itself that sinks/floats, no weight added. Super Strike Lures have an system where the color of the eye of the lure denotes whether it sinks or floats - black eyes mean it sinks, green means it floats. Red eye are extra heavy. Hope this helps!

For the most of the canal fishing, it's a 12' Shimano Tiralejo. For the beaches, a 10' Century Stealth 1-4oz.

Appreciate catching stripers in your "first trip". Some of us have fished the canal for years before catching our first fish. Most challenging place to fish in the world! Usually get a couple now, but it took years to catch stripers almost every time.

I know youre using the sinking model but its hard to tell if youre working it at the surface at all. Is that something that youre doing in this video or are you strictly working it subsurface?

Hi, never used sinking poppers. In your video (nice video) you share some tips but if you or someone you expand a little more on how to use sinking poppers I would really appreciate it. Are different techniques for "sinking" and "fast sinking"? How deep I can let it sink? Once I retrieve it to the top can I worked it like a floating popper? Thanks

Definitely a fan of the Daiwa Sp minnows and choices listed here however there are situations where the bass are feeding on smaller targets and matching the hatch is necessary. Clouds of bay anchovies is one good example where the bass are locked in and gorging on them . These anchovies are the #1 most abundant food source on the Atlantic coast and Chesapeake bay. On the West coast its the same deal in the surf just different colored northern anchovies. Hogy lure company makes Epoxy jig lures for these very situations and you cast them into stiff winds pretty easily given the shape and design. The sizes on the Epoxy jig lure run from 3/8th ounce to 4 ounces so you might need a lighter #12 lb test rated surf rod to properly toss a smaller one and a more traditional rod for the heavier ones. Its not uncommon at all to see 50-60 lb bass eating balls of 3 inch baits using their tail to slap and injure the anchovies then turning around and eating what they injured. Anglers tend to toss big ass lures at fish this size when in fact scaling down is the better way to go.
