Very nice performance, but so many performances of this piece sound/feel a bit rushed. It can be performed a little bit more laid back. It's French impressionistic, play with it a little more. Love his full sonorous low tones.

For a modern piece it is so traditional. I don't know what Harrison Wou is speaking of when he says blend more with the clarinets. I like to hear the flute and the band was never too loud for the soloist and a excellent sound and flutist. I cannot say more except it would have been nice if the piece was more modern.
@saxhubdotjazz11 жыл бұрын
hello Mr. Wu, you have a wonderful sound but you need to blend more with the other instruments, especially with the Clarinets. Also, make sure you are playing a piano, even if the score doesnt say so.

He’s the soloist, they should blend to him.

Because when you're standing holding a flute your arms get tired. They have probably been standing on stage for a while, and will be tired out. :)

Okay, so a couple run phrases and embellishments were a little sloppy. There were other aspects of his phrasing and dynamics that I enjoy even more than the several recordings by James Galway. Keep in mind that this Is a live performance, not something you can do clean up, doing multiple retakes in the studio. I say, over all, beautiful job, Matthew. ~🌹asr🌹~

Give the guy a break. This guy was super nervous, which you can tell if you look at his forehead in certain shots (it’s really sweaty). The only mistakes he made were ones that people make when they’re super nervous, which this guy probably was because being a featured soloist is FUCKING TERRIFYING.
