Back in I think second grade when my class was being introduced to fractions, the textbook's flavor text was about a boy celebrating his birthday and his two younger sisters. Each kid was given two slices of cake, but the sisters wanted more, so the mother solved the problem by cutting the middle sister's slices into halves, and the youngest sister's slices into thirds, which they were happy with. The flavor text then ended with the oldest brother smiling to himself because he was old enough to understand that his sisters just got bamboozled. This experiment reminded me of that

Regarding volumes and masses, it seems to me that it is not the same to do the experiments with different but neutral shapes, in which one does not seem to have more volume than the other, than with different shapes in which one seems to have more volume than the other. The experiment is not between two objects of the same material and different shapes, the experiment is between two objects of the same material and different apparent size. And on the other hand, why don't they do the cookie experiment in reverse? Give two cookies to the child and one to the researcher, wouldn't they have obtained the same result?

pretty sure the kid is below average... At his age he should be able to distinguish the difference, especially after the third example.

It’s magic! 😁 Kids have an imagination unfettered by facts, logic, and physics 😊; it’s not hard for them to believe their eyes, and that the world around them can magically transform.

Hey Guys A child can only recognise and reproduce certain relationships at different ages. Show your child a triangle with the tip pointing downwards and say draw it, it will fail if the child is under 6 years old. If you turn the triangle so that the tip points upwards, the child can draw it!!!

This kid is not on Piaget's conversation.. this kid is still dumb and don't worry he will learn.
@steamer2k31924 күн бұрын
I'm not overly familiar with Piaget's theories on this but part of it just seems like a lack of vocabulary. E.g., Are these two lines different or the same? They're different. Do they differ in breadth or quantity? I don't know what either of those words mean. Part of it also seems to be a lack of interest(?) capacity(?) for considering multiple factors/dimensions of change. E.g., This ball is smooshed, that one isn't. There--I've satisfied your request to identify a change. Can we move on now? <Broader x-axis, deeper z-axis, shorter y-axis and preserved total mass remain mostly unconsidered>

There were two challenges in this experiment that don’t happen in real life for kids his age: 1) She didn’t show him concrete examples of how the shape game is played like she did for the color game. 2) There was no feedback or correction on her part at all, which is critical for a child to learn and commonly provided at home and kindergarten.

Interesting experiment, but I wonder how much it is influenced by the child's desire to give an explanation that satisfies the adult's expectation.
