Thank you Walt. I was disappointed that it wasn’t the walnut that it was supposed to be, but it sure came out pretty nice.

Thank you. I appreciate you taking to time to watch and comment. This one was fun on several levels, not the least was that I’d never done this before. It was not my intention to make the ring turn. Wayne and Ruby shamed me into it. So happy my skills were up to it.

Doug this is gorgous. Ive never turned Osage orange before. This small dish and the inlay bowl came out so nicely, makes me want to find some of this to do something (larger than a pen) with.
@DougMilleratWoodSpunRound15 күн бұрын
Osage Orange is a tough wood to turn once dry. Completely turnable and much easier when green. Sharp tools and patience are the keys. Thanks for watching.
@chrisgiftshop312715 күн бұрын
@@DougMilleratWoodSpunRoundin Florida right now and a place down here has some Osage bowl blanks. May have to pick some up. Thanks for the advice if I decide to turn some. And love your videos, just got out of watching some KZbin for a while.
@chrisgiftshop312716 күн бұрын
Doug i must say this is gorgeous. Chris is a good kid he loves turning just wish he would do more videos. He mentioned this to me once before never did hear how things went. This turned out great and sadly I think the only way to get this color from pearl ex anymore is with the sample sets. Gonna have to get caught up on some of your videos now.
@DougMilleratWoodSpunRound15 күн бұрын
It was a good project that I was happy to do. Chris kind of fell down on his side of it though.
@chrisgiftshop312715 күн бұрын
@@DougMilleratWoodSpunRoundI think he and I spoke about it. We did a pen blank swap. You don't do much with resin/epoxy do you? I don't think I've seen you turn any before.

I lied, I'm checking it out tonight. Maxing out a lathe is always interesting. I've too found carbides don't like slow rims or big air gaps like when you first started. Take a couple aleeves, slow and big kind of beats yah up😅

That's really impressive Doug, I turned a small plate (3actually) coincidentally from cherry and while looking for suitable wood I came across a slice of oak I decided to turn a platter from that will be the biggest diameter I've ever turned 😂, nothing like this it's 12.5" but that's the max my lathe can turn, good coincidences and good video 👍

Eventually I have to get some of that paste to try out. Always sanding a ton before I finish and the bad habit of forgetting a mask.
@DougMilleratWoodSpunRound21 күн бұрын
Kevin, I would tell you, “Get some now, don’t hesitate.” The link for Ack’s should be in the video description, as well as my 15% discount code. 2 advantages over sand paper. 1. Saves time over going through all the grits up to 1000. I typically sand 80-120-180-240. Then the abrasive paste. 2. Saves your lungs. Since the particles that are so harmful come off the finer grit sand papers, your saving yourself since there is NO dust when you use abrasive paste. The oil/wax carrier also captures what is abraded off the work. I appreciate you watching and commenting. Happy turning!
