Hey RAF! I am a member of the air cadets and I'm wondering how I'd be able to get a career in the Royal Air Force and if I'd get any qualifications just from being a member for an aviation career? Thanks!
@JakeGchannel2 күн бұрын
I was an Air cadet over 10 years ago and I joined the RAF this year. I'm currently in phase 2 training doing Cyberspace (IT) however, I have a lot of pals doing aviation type trades mainly avionics and mechanical. To answer your question yes you can get an aviation career but it all depends on what area you go into (trade wise) for example, if you go the techy route then you can already guess what sort of civvie jobs there'll be however, my role includes aviation as a section of cyberspace where we'll work along side aircraft mainly QRA (Typhoons), so there are many different trades that do that. Hope this helps.

Amazing to think Vera was on a pedestal outdoors in Goderich Ontario. And that it took 11 yrs to restore her. Seeing her fly over our house in Oakville is a gift and a joy. She's magnificent. The CWHM does wonderful work. Remembering Andy, and all the airmen who sacrificed so much.

Yes, the NZ Air Training Corps is based upon the original British Air Training Corps. We also have the Army Cadet Force, Sea Cadet Corps and Marine Cadet Corps.

Good afternoon, I was recently training at Halton as a regular Regt Gunner around 2 months ago, but had to leave due a to crisis at home. I am interested in joining as a reserve whilst I’m not in the ideal position to join as a regular right now but I had a few questions/concerns. 1. Would the RAF pay for travel from my property to the reserve sqn base? I live 60 miles away and do not drive unfortunately. If I did drive, are fuel expenses covered completely? I have looked at rail timings, based on the fact the “working day” is a 9-5 on the weekend, and unfortunately it looks like I’d either end up getting there slightly late or get there very early. This may sound ridiculous, but would the RAF pay for a private taxi or shuttle to ensure I am there on time? 2. If I chose to go from reserve to regular in the future, would I need to redo phase 1 at Halton? I read that reservists skip Halton if they are reservists, and possibly phase 2 as well? I’d be joining as a OR Regt Gunner. 3. Would anything be different for myself, as I had done the first 2 weeks of Halton and passed my Regt PGSC? Thank you for your help.
@lewisadams80775 күн бұрын
From my experience with training in the RAF, all travelling expenses to training when you are outside the military would have to be funded by yourself. I very much doubt the RAF is going to help you with travelling unless you have an assignment order, which you won’t as you haven’t fully graduated and have never been in ph2 trg. If you were to go back to Halton as a recruit, you would start from day 0 regardless of your previous experience. If you want to make a good impression with timings. I would suggest getting to a unit early and asking for accommodation over night. If you had a reason to be at a station they would accommodate you in SLA. I have heard reservists sometimes will skip Halton but you will need to do the 2 week intensive course at Halton first and be committed to being a reservist for a certain amount of time before wanting to transfer over as a regular.

Day 1 get picked up from thetford station at 12pm. Get to Honington and get gear needed for next 48 hr. Go for 2km run, med ball throw and static deadlift. Go to swimming pool and put overalls on. Swim four lengths and kick water for 2 min in overalls. Go for evening meal, after eveing meal a presentation will be given. Guys wearing suits have failed and will go home in the morning or that evening. Days 2, shower and shave. Off to breakfast, then go get helmets for assault course. Do the assault course (good fun) and then change overalls. Go for field equipment at the stores and have dinner (sandwiches) there. Pack equipment and tab to field exercise. Get a few lessons on concealment, do battle PT 😂. Stretch and then get changed. A few more presentations and evening meal in the field. (A cooked meal). being November light was limited, so we setteld down for the night in open shipping containers. Get woken up for stag and watch shit move that isnt moving 😂. Day 3, wake up at 4.50, tab back to stores give equipment back and then to accommodation. Shower and shave, go for breakfast. Presentation with certification and then get your bags to return to train station. ( no tour was given for a valid reason). Thetford town is like hot fuzz (the movie) town, the train station toilets and inside waiting area closes at 1pm and are locked. I saw 2 pple pissing outside the station whilst waiting for my train. The course was good fun, some of the lads talked absolute shite, they either quit some of the tasks or was gasing through most of them. Black bibs are potential officers, some wouldnt even give you time of day unless ordered to. The Corporals are a great bunch, just turn up ready to do all three days
