Very nice collection. I particularly liked the Moroccan stamps part. You showed a good understanding of the Kings and the Western Sahara, which now belongs to Morocco. I specialize in Moroccan stamps. My Moroccan collection is quite complete. Also, you showed the French Protectorate. Feel free to ask me anything about Moroccan stamps.

I do the same thing. In order to protect any exposed sheets, I use a plastic page protector to keep them safe. I just slide the black sheet inside a page protector and place in the binder.

I like soring my stamps in glassiness and then into the glassine boxes. If the set let's say has eight stamps in the set, I will store on or two of them in each glassine and catalog it.

love the typewritten template idea. Do you still have it available? iso, could you send it to me at your convenience? I had a catastrophic event at my home two years ago... lightning started a fire.. we lost all possessions pretty much, but my stamp collection (50years in the making) was stored in tight lid containers.. the smoke and soot got the albums, but I saved most of the stamps.. needless to say, I'm re-sorting everything, since most all of the collection got mixed up when I had to use ozone generators and hydroxide generators to sort of clean the stamps up and get the smell off them.. I succeeded!! but this label gives me New hope to resume and get it back to what it was like.. Thanks in advance!!!

You get special stamp drying books. I have a Desert Magic. It is worth while getting especially if you have stamps that are very thin or very old. On older stamps it might be worth preserving the cancelling marks - for instance fully legible cancels from war time, etc. Cut the stamp with the cancelling and keep as an item. Happy stamping everyone.

The iPhone version of Stamp Identifier gives you an eBay listing link with the asking price or auction bid start. The Android version does NOT do that. If you search under SOLD on eBay you see how much the stamp sold for. If you search under COMPLETED you see how many were listed and NOT sold as well as SOLD.

Great video. Stamps (and coins) are definitely getting more expensive - I think these hobbies are experiencing a resurgence. That being said, I just picked up 1000 world stamps for £12, and a set of amazing Philippines stamps, mint, for a £1. What a steal! :) Still an affordable hobby, if you're collecting for attractiveness rather than rarity, and lot less expensive than collecting coins!

There are a couple of important things that collectors need that I didn't hear mentioned, especially if you buy large packets to start your collection. 1) A Watermark Detector - some of the easiest stamps to get are the QEII Wilding issues and German stamps from between the two world wars. You can have what appears to be dozens of the same stamps but different watermarks mean you have different stamps 2) A UV Light - The United States, Canada, and Great Britain issued a lot of stamps beginning in the late 50s where they 'glow' under a UV light. I think these two items are just as important as the magnifying glass and stamp tongs. After all, before you 'store' your stamps, the fun part is identifying them

Do you have any recommendations on a Watermark Detector (mainly Canadian stamps)? I recently bought a stamp collection where the guy claimed it was all "New and never posted but "got wet"". All the backs have lost their gum which makes me think they've been posted before. Besides the missing gum, the fronts of the stamps have no markings and when I use my 385 Wavelength UV light, only the sides/areas that are supposed to glow, indeed glow. I'm thinking of selling the duplicate stamps I got, but am unsure what to list/market them as. (i.e. used vs new, etc). I also have separate stamp books for my "new" stamps and "used" stamps so am unsure where to put these ones. Any advice/expertise greatly appreciated :)

The most useful tool in my collection is my watermark detector. Also, as I get older, my magnifying glass has become a zoom microscope because my eyes have been aging with me.

The "CTO" did more damage to the hobby than anything else by flooding the market with those kind of " labels ", Secondly, issues aimed at collectors overwhelmed legitimate stamps for postal need. With the advent of the internet and instaneous messaging, the tombstone will read, born 1840, died ????
