Corporations and their donations to governments mean the quality of our life is held to ransom through "Profit before People". What this means is governments will support anything their corporate donors want and have bribed them to do so. The mining sector has had it too good for too long and have swayed many governments to do unspeakable thing to people such as our Indigenous Australians being thrown off their land or closures to important places for recreation for the sake of money. When mines want to expand production it comes at a price and good people suffer at the expense of government stooges being paid off or having vested interests with the corporations involved. I think we need to take back what is OURS from these sleazy rightwinger gutter creatures who don't even give a fucking shit about the general population, only their rich cohorts. We are faced with Australian asstes being sold off to fund corporate tax breaks that need to be spent on our public system, TOURISM and infrastructure. Remove anything from the later and it falls apart. Rightwingers don't give a shit as their monetary nestegg is more important to them and don't care that our tourism is failing apart

Hi there Roothy, this situation is sad to hear about. I live in the U.S. and I've never been to Australia but I have heard so many stories of great adventures, now you bring to light that this wondrous place is under threat. The U.S. is going through the exact same thing, so many places I used to go and respectfully explore in my 4x4 are gated with trespassers will be arrested signs. Here its because if people tearing up the land and leaving trash everywhere. its all very sad man, I hope your attempts help to resolve the issues you face in Australia, unfortunately here it hasn't worked, we attend city meetings and talk to officials and we manage to get places reopened to the public and within a month usually they are locked back up because the same damn thing happens again. In the U.S. respectful off roaders are hard to find, the folks I go out with just enjoy being out in nature and we only drive on used trails, but for the most part American off roaders go out just to see how much destruction they can cause.

Hi Guys, I would like to put a suggestion out there..................... ULA is going to need continuing funding to really push hard. I would be happy to put $5-00 p/w towards this effort, after all, if we are serious and this is going to be successful and keep our country open for generations, its the least I could do. Maybe others will agree. It would be easy to give people the "option" when subscribing to 4WD Action or other sister magazines, to put something in. EVEN a dollar a week will help! I'm interested to see how many people are serious and will "like " this idea????

Sadly, there are morons and idiots in every interest group and the other members of those groups have to work harder to minimise the damage they do. Sadly most interest groups that involve motor vehicles seem to attract more than their fair share of morons, idiots, yahoos and yobbos. Sadly, there is little chance of rehabilitating most people that already think that way. Sadly .. Oh, and remember, the broader community's attitude to us is formed as much by what we do on the road as off it and that attitude influences policy makers. Sadly, someone will always be watching and ready to criticise a 4WDer so be safe, be courteous, be considerate, be aware. Happily, the vast majority of the 4WD community are responsible, thoughtful and aware and we have the ULA and Roothy to represent and articulate our thoughtful, responsible and aware attitude. Keep moving forward Roothy. Cheers

Your sentiments are great John, it's just a shame that the organisation seems to attract fools. I mean the current topic on the Facebook page is one of wires across motocross trails. It clearly associates "greenies" with this stupid practice and is also clearly bullshit. It's over a year old and is from the US! As long as you are spreading this anti green crap you are going to attract the sort of deadshits who enjoy ripping gates out and destroying our bush. I'm a fisher, shooter and 4x4 enthusiast so don't write me off as a "Greenie". (Whatever that means)

A gate is really a sign saying that the lands' managers need to save money. The country is broke and they're saving money. Gates and Padlocks are cheaper than track and camping ground maintenance in the long term. There's no money for national parks and state forests. Just look at the last 30 years of lack of attention to fire breaks, tree thinning and keeping access open. We don't have "forests" anymore - We have state scrubs full of pests and weeds. There hasn't been any forest management for years. Successive governments are to blame. They are as culpable and guilty as one another. Allowing public access to public forests, state and nationals parks is a great idea. One of the flow-on effects is that people just by driving and camping reduce the fuel load and keep tracks open from undergrowth. Opening up Crown Land again to the public has so many benefits, from social to health and from economic to damage control. I could write for hours on this subject alone. "You'll never meet a better conservationist than a farmer, fisherman, forester or whaler". I swear NPWS uses Lantana to stop people walking off marked trails !
@adelarsen977610 жыл бұрын
There's no better conservationist than a farmer, fisherman, forester or whaler. The lack of forest management is a disgrace. The lack of access is a disgrace.

G’day, Mate! I 100% agree with you and would never rip out gates or make a track around them, however just look at the power the Greens now have by doing just this, breaking the law to get there way. It did work for them. Makes you wonder, they break the law and get everything, we obey the law and get no ware but the run around. Thank you Roothy!
