Also because of Takahashi, Takumi forgets to pick up his daughter again leading to her disappearance and death so his angered rage towards Takahashi at the end is in a way understandable. If these two never came to the village to begin with and upset that balance, Takumi would most likely still have his daughter. Wicked I feel like will get a lot nominates and like maybe two wins

I have questions. Why would it be strange for two actors from The Brutalist to win? And why would you want someone to win because of an actors on actors video if you didn't like his performance? And a comment: I absolutely want to see a "pretentious" speech by Guy Pearce, especially since he has publicly supported Palestine, instead of some "lovable" actor being "lovable". There's something seriously wrong with the industry if awards are given for being "lovable" rather than for what there are supposed to be, great performances.

I'd like to see cynthia at least get nominated. Drawing the depth of character from the musical book is a massive achievement a it can't compare with the sophisticated, detailed writing of a screenplay which doesn't have to make room for songs and dance routines. Also she has to maintain authenticity whilst breaking into song, so the fact we are actually even talking about her is a testament to her performance. Best Actor should take the genre into consideration otherwise a performance in a musical or comedy is never gonna stand a chance up against the hard hitting 'dramatic' work. Cynthia has the acting chops to tackle the other actors material but not sure how many of the other potential nominees could do what she has done in wicked

I'm shocked you think Jones is making SAG. Her missing there feels very predictable, The Brutalist will be weaker there than anywhere else I'd still predict for Oscar with Globe+BAFTA+ a Top 3 film though

After rewatching The Substance, I really think Demi Moore has a shot at winning. A few months ago, many were thinking she was on the edge of getting nominated. Now many have her right up there with Mikey Madison. If the Academy can get past the fact that The Substance has a ton of criticism pointed straight at Hollywood, Demi might just win. As great as Mikey Madison is in Anora, it just doesn’t feel like a performance that would win, whereas Demi is giving it literally everything as then some.

I don’t think he should win at all let alone sweep the season for exactly the opposite of what Thomas said. I watched the actors on actors roundtable interview too & Culkin is himself in A Real Pain. I didn’t see Benji. I saw Culkin. All his mannerisms. The fast way he talks. The way he constantly pushes back his hair. I just didn’t see him as anything but himself in A Real Pain. He’s not a transformative actor to me. His character was similar to Roman in Succession too. I feel like he’ll win because he’s still riding the success of that show. Because he’s an it actor of the moment and not actually for his work in the film which isn’t a very strong picture contender. It’s also a lead performance not supporting so it’s category fraud too. I do like Culkin but I preferred his work in Igby Goes Down & Succession over A Real Pain by far.

the margot robbie/cynthia erivo comparison doesn't really make any sense other than both being the lead actresses of female-driven movies lol cynthia's performance is much more showy and impressive than margot on barbie.

I still think Grande has the edge to win over Saldaña at the end of the day. Especially considering how many musical films that were either in or close to Best Picture have won in Best Supporting Actress. Chicago, Dreamgirls, Les Mis, and West Side Story all swept Supporting Actress across the board and I think Grande’s performance feels very similar to those wins which gives me confidence that she’ll win. Especially because despite finding Saldaña performance to be the only truly good thing about Emilia Perez, I think her sidelining in the second half might hurt her chances slightly.
