hi Joyce! I’ve got a video on this on my channel (how I’d become a data scientist if I could start over) - let me know if you find that helpful, and if not, if there’s any other specific questions you’d like! I’ll be sure to respond on this thread 🙂

First time watching your channel and it is very informative. You must be very frugal to be able to spend only your side hustle income for all your living expenses and save up all of your full-time job income. Maybe you can create a video to share tips about frugality and how you did it. Thank you so much for sharing. I have subscribed to your channel and am looking forward to more of such educated videos 😀

Hi Lester! Thank you for the kind comment it made my day! I definitely was conscious of my spending but I was also privileged to live at home with parents at the time + save on rent and bills. In saying that I did work 20 hours a week so I had a handy $300+ each week to spend on socialising / shopping / saving which was quite a lot for a uni student :D And the video is a good idea, let me add to my list 😃 happy new year!

Hi, Vivian. How are you? Well, I just decided that I want to be a Data Scientist and I came across your video. Super super cool, I really liked it!!! Can I ask you one question: I've said that you have been developing more features lately. What kind of technology have you been using for this?
@candidlyvivian6 күн бұрын
hi there thank you for the kind comment! 😃 I prototype all of my features for my company purely using SQL + Python. Some features can be a new customer scoring model, or maybe a new button that summarises text messages. I often connect to the open ai API to use their LLM :)

One thing that you fail to mention is that if your “earned income “ is relatively high marginal taxation will result in deminishing returns for your time if you take on say a second job, also that $10 interest that you earned in a term deposit may only mean you take home $6 and loose change.for most middle class mortgage holders they have a large debt mountain that needs to be climbed, so reducing debt is the most risk free way to have a positive gain tax free. This creates a multiplier effect for every dollar you save in debt you gain 2 , unfortunately this works in reverse too.
@candidlyvivian12 күн бұрын
yes that is definitely a great call out re: tax and prioritising paying off all debt!

It is so nice to hear finally from someone else too that the "9-5 pm job" can be a dream job as well!! ❤😊 In my latest 10 years I was literally suffering to fullfil this "dream artistic job" as a business owner....and even I've got chronically sick because I didn't follow the right path for me. Then this year I finally let this "social media dream art job" to go because it is just not me. Creativity has so many forms and shapes!! 🎉 I'm very good at analysis and recognising patterns, building patterns. Already have developed skills on DataCamp and will continue learning the necessary tech part with a hope that next year I can find a remote job as data analyst at first! 🎉 Do you need to have IT degree for data scientist career? Thank you so much for this great video!! ❤
@candidlyvivian13 күн бұрын
thank you!! I recently learnt that "you don't have to love your job - instead, love the life that it pays for" and it made so much more sense! super exciting that you are now pursuing your passions with data + patterns, DataCamp is more than enough as long as you have the willingness to learn + i believe that you'll be able to land a job! i personally have a math degree, but there are so many of my colleagues from non-traditional / self taught backgrounds :) happy new year!

Why even publicaly announce your personal goals, its no one else's business and you don't need the validation. Ideas are easy, execution is hard. You know you've made it when you get the praise and respect when you haven't asked for it.

Thank you for sharing transparently. But honestly you “saved the most” by overly sharing the costs with your “partner paid for” so many things and living with parents so not factoring in these bills. But sure. Some good tips on meal prep, eating light meals when you can and considered purchasing. Ground breaking. Thank you!

yes definitely privileged to be saving $600+ a week on rent! and yes i know its misleading in this video but I defs cover my partner whenever I get a new CC for the bonus points, it's just his turn to get the points :D otherwise I have quite a frugal mentality and try to save as much as I can, thank u for your comment!

Understanding money, doesn’t mean you have to be a tight a$$ . Price and value are not always directly related, you can have expensive things that deliver value and cheap things that don’t deliver value . Also understanding opportunity cost helps frame and optimizes your spending choices . If I buy this LV handbag what else could I have spent it on. However these thing rely on humans making rational utilitarian choices, something we are not always consistent with

Omg that’s crazy. I live in Sydney and my monthly expenses is typically $1500 or $50/day not including mortgage and bills. It’s decent lifestyles with eating out most of time as I don’t cook. Now mortgage and bills are different story. RBA is still too high and electricity/gas is increasing, council fees and strata are expensive plus gym membership, streaming platforms, etc. those can easily be $5000 combined.

My lifestyle costs me and my partner around $8,000 excluding rent in Sydney as we own the place. We cut everything back and now we are sitting at around $3,000ish... It's a bit crazy paying $8k each month. Good on you!

Wait till you settle down and have kids. Actually wait till you have a wedding lol. I reckon if I had the chance, do something low key, do a nice overseas wedding in Italy with some friends then you can an overseas trip at same time. I also think and no offense to women, but gosh engagement rings are a rort sorry, so much for a small thing plus if trying to save up then I think I’d rather spend that money (again) on overseas wedding in Europe with friends. Anyhow each to their own
@candidlyvivian23 күн бұрын
you're spot on!! the thought of a mortgage with kids terrifies me 😰 the more weddings I go to, the less I want to have a large reception, am definitely considering an elopement / holiday instead + definitely an engagement ring that doesn't break the bank, money can be so much better spent elsewhere

I think what i got out of this is Sydney is Expensive if you want to dine out or socialise , and $88 a day for a co-working space? Sydney doesn’t seem that great for digital nomads either. You should do a video on the cost associated with selling your apartment and whether you made a profit on it. My Money saving tip is get a very good quality Flask for drinks , Buying drinks from food courts and eateries is extortionate. $5 for a can of coke or $8 for Juice.
@candidlyvivian24 күн бұрын
completely agree, the social scene in Sydney is so expensive (coffees too). and yes, the coworking spaces are super expensive with little amenities, local libraries are such a great alternative. i like your money saving tip! i try to avoid buying drinks outside and just having a big bottle of water on me at all time :) good idea re: the video idea, I'll add it to my list 💌
