Yes, it does speed it up compared to a solar or conventional kiln

I've read somewhere that it runs @27-28in, which I thought it was surprisingly high for a machine of this size

Im considering buying one. Has the idry been profitable for you? I have a small sawmill and am wanting to add drying services. Thanks
@knotjustlumber Жыл бұрын
Yes, it has been. We recently added a 2nd kiln because we had enough demand. Profitability isn't as much as we initially expected though for two reasons. 1. Some loads take longer than the online calculators estimated because we start with fresh cut customer lumber. If you have the time to air dry to about 25% this will significantly cut down on the time in kiln. 2. We price our service by the BF rather than hours. It gives the customer a more predictable cost but sometimes less profitable on our end. Good luck man!

Hey thanks for sharing this video. I’m curious to see how you still like your machine? I’m considering one and I was wondering if this was what you mostly use for flattening slabs that will fit? I see that you did one in the video but didn’t know if you regularly use it for that purpose as well? Thanks

VERY satisfying to watch. The company I work for is going to be purchasing a double-sided planer pretty soon and I am pumped! My biggest concern was its ability to flatten more than anything as most of our product is salvaged from hazard trees, but you cleared that up! Thank you!

I see alot of videos with strate edge wood and epoxy, but no grueves or something to fix it togeather?, dose it bite/fix that hard into the wood without breake or separate?
@knotjustlumber2 жыл бұрын
It does a surprisingly good job connecting, as long as you give it a good bond. Making sure the wood is free of bark/debris, well-sanded, no oil or release spray gets on the wood then you should be good. Blacktail Studio did an interesting video on this a couple years ago. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jWSugqtmqL9gobc

Thank you so much for making this video. I want to make an outdoor project with epoxy and wood. Do you have any recommendations for a weather/UV resistant finish for outdoor projects? Sorry this may be very basic, but I am new to woodworking and epoxy.
@knotjustlumber2 жыл бұрын
Good question. Ecopoxy, the brand we carry, doesn't recommend their resin for outdoor use. I'm really not aware of a brand that does recommend usage outdoor. I would look into a marine grade spar varnish to protect an outdoor wood project.

Would a wire wheel take to much off or would have just been a slower overall process? Sorry have seen many using a wire wheel, but seemed like popping the bark off with the chisel was just way easier. Beginner with resin here and live within 50 miles of several places selling live edge. Trying to learn all I can.
@knotjustlumber2 жыл бұрын
A wire wheel would have worked. I've never personally used one but know guys that do and it works good. Getting the bulk off with a chisel or draw knife, etc. is quicker than sanding or wire brushing. Good luck with you're projects.

I appreciate that you have a statements about shop safety. If you get more experienced with epoxy-work you will learn about the risks of working with resin and you will be able to make better 'beginner video's'. Sanding epoxy without a face mask is about as irresponsible as you can go. "Teaching" this to other beginners borders on criminality. Or you are just plain ignorant and shouldn't make a 'beginner's guide'.
@knotjustlumber2 жыл бұрын
That's a very valid point. I should have highlighted safety while working with epoxy. Thanks for calling this out.
