It would help if you had a big wide strap too strap the tank down.

I worked at the H-D factory in York PA. for 26 years in the tank and fender dept and we did this all-day removing dents, all hammer and dolly work no fillers, we had sanding belt/polishing jacks, 1st it works better if the metal is warm and bare no paint (if you're going to repaint it), it makes the metal more malleable and you can see where the tool is landing when you hammer from inside the tank, 2nd I had 20 tools, and they were all hammers each rod length was made to reach a different area on the tank and each person made their own sets. you would be better off buying 1/4-inch rod and making your own custom set to reach I retired and still have all my tools it's a technique that requires a lot of patience and time to learn it is learning when to pry and when to use them as a hammer inside the tank and tap the dent out. my tools consisted of 15 different rod hammers, 2 body hammers, 3 dollies for outer skin smoothing. we had a saying in tank & fender " it's not for everybody" a lot of guys bid out of the dept, because this was hard work, and it requires skill. as far as lighting we only used fluorescent lighting, and it takes time to acquire an eye for it also with any bodywork your hands are essential to feeling the surface as you go along for imperfections and smoothing them out to a finished product. I hope this helps you out.

Glue strips and a puller is the easiest way of pulling that out.

Nice find. I'm looking for one just like this. As this is what I learned on, same color and same size. I was about 15 when I rode it a hand full of times. I have always wanted to ride again and never have. well now i'm 57 and feel like i'm running out of time to ride again. If your near Mich. I would love to buy it from you. I was wondering how evaporust would work. I never heard of anyone using it. I also wondered how it would work on stuck rings. Like how you put the oil in the cylinder. Subscribed

Use an inner tube. Suff it in that side behind the dent and inflate it.
@gormanspacemarine13 күн бұрын
@@josephcivita1450 I've done that and the tank butterflies so it wouldn't touch the frame mounting lugs, be careful, maybe use a tie down strap around the tank to prevent this tragic event.

I had exact ds80 when I was about 13 which was late 80s it was immaculate and I was an absolute idiot for getting rid of it and it was just as quick as the rm I thought, just not as flashy and way smaller stance.

I cleaned the tank on my 73 CL350. I used Evaporust and it worked great. I strained it back into the jug

Yeah, I'm an Evapo-rust fan, a little spendy but you can clean quite a few tanks before it loses it's potency.

Can someone tell me how you are supposed to fit parts E43 E44 to the decks as there is only a semi circle hole yet to fit it need to be a full circle i dont get it. These are the little crane type things not sure what there called but they have the swivel arm. Roy

You did excellent work on this model, I especially like the thread rigging; you even did the rigging on the little lifeboats. The 1/400 scale looks like it would be a lot of fun to build up, I just did the 1/700 version this week. Academy did a great job on these model kits, the parts are incredible. I didn't attempt any rigging on mine, at 1/700 scale even thread would be close to 10 inches thick, but on your scale it looks fantastic. Great job all around, what a display piece!
