Was looking for a better microphone than my unbranded amazon one haha and stumbled across the AT2020 in my search. While searching how it worked and what I needed to set it up, I came across this video and now discovered the AT2040... Safe to say I think the 2040 would be a much better match for what im looking for and you also provided valuable information for me about it! Amazing video

what's better for mixing video audio and podcasts : the volt 2 or the volt 276?

I have an at2020, have done for ages now but i need to get a mic arm, struggling to understand which ones to avoid, there seem to be so many around but i just want one that can clamp down and be able to pull towards me and away from me easily when i'm recording videos.
@llllMills
@llllMills 11 ай бұрын
I just grabbed a cheap one on Amazon ($30-$50 range) and it has worked great for the past 2 years. The brand is Puroma if that helps. I will say that if I hit the desk pretty hard, noise travels up through the arm into the mic. I bet that happens with any arm, but I also haven't tried really expensive ones.

@@llllMills hi, thanks for the reply, it's mostly just putting my drink down on the table or something that bangs the mic but it would be much easier to have it right in front of me, i'll take a look at that mic arm and see how it looks, thanks.

I wouldn't buy a UA Volt 276 if it wasn't supposed to produce music, honestly. I was kind of confused when you compared it to Motu M2 and Focusrite. But then I understood that you're analyzing it on the perspective of vlogging. Because, in the perspective of music production, the fact that the Volt 276 has Universal Audio's vintage preamp circuit and a compressor based on the classic 1176 model built in, makes it incomparable to any basic interface like Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. And this is because those circuits are not only to prevent clipping. Those circuits in the Volt 276, actually, are going to deliver analog saturation to the audio, which is very pleasant to the ears and impossible to achieve with digital processing. So, if you are not a musician, I do not recommend you to buy this interface. Just stick with any normal audio interface and use very low input gain to prevent clipping. In my opinion, the Volt 276 was made for low budget producers, who can't afford to buy analog equipment, but also wants to apply some analog color/saturation to their recordings.
@DerRabenbarde
@DerRabenbarde Жыл бұрын
Having the compressor on is great though. Instant radio voice for videos, streams, etc.
@prod.password
@prod.password Жыл бұрын
@@DerRabenbarde Tottally. I agree. However, if you're on low budget, and you also don't actually need the "analoggy" sound of the UA Volt 276, you can use any regular "cheap" digital audio interface, record your voice with low input gain and apply any zero latency digital compressor plugin to smoothen the audio dynamics and then amplify it to the desired volume. You'll basically have the same effect of the UA Volt 276. You can even configure the compressor to be on default in your recording app. You just won't have the analog saturation, which, for general use, is not necessary in my opinion

I want to record my written poetry professionally. Suggest me a good audio interface and microphone. But my room is not sound proof. The sound from outside comes inside our room. I've never seen a windscreen used as a pop filter. They definitely have different materials for different purposes so I'm not sure how much it changed each microphone sonically. This video was super helpful though! The AT2040's we have tend to have a lot of noise bleed in our podcast, so maybe we'll try the 2020
@danielpaulson8838
@danielpaulson8838 8 ай бұрын
Agreed. A windscreen does not function as a pop filter unless the air puffs are super light. It made no audible difference in this demonstration. It popped anyway. If you have noise bleed, you may wish to change out to some dynamic mics.
@coltconley
@coltconley 5 ай бұрын
Yeah 2020 will be worse for you if you are having noise bleed into the mics currently using 2040s. Perhaps some room treatment will help, or positioning your talent differently or something. Dynamic mics will absolutely be better at an open room layout podcast type situation. Look at any of the ones here on KZbin. The Shure SM7B is a heavy hitting hero for a reason. You could try the cheaper Shure SM57, with the extra Shure A2WS locking windscreen, to help with rejection.
