I´m glad you like it so much, but I can´t send mp3s for copyrighted material. This one got a claim for Shallow Than Halo and YT only allows it cause they divert money to the copyright holder. I could get in serious trouble if I´d sent it around. BUT there are some very useful, free programs that turn YT videos in mp3 (or whatever format you like). Just use google.

When you mentioned that Julie was going goth, I immediately assumed Bauhaus, and then Cocteau Twins. My second guess was correct! And man oh man, does the Halocentric Mix work! Thank you.
@stellaVistaАй бұрын
I used this song because of a suggestion in the comments. I was kind of struggling with it as it originally has a 120bpm tempo, which suggests classic house/disco beat. But nothing worked with the vocals. So I had to go into halftime grooves. I actually didn´t want to use Shallow Than Halo, casue I used it before with a similar artist (Little Jimmy Scott). But it just works like an atomic bomb! The way her voice just drops and slurs is fantastic.
@markowens5872Ай бұрын
I was expecting a fusion with Bela Lugosi but this dropped instead…… good gracious…… mesmerising perfection.

When you began this Julie London adventure, I began reading about her on Wikipedia. I knew she was a singer, but I was unfamiliar with her work (though I do remember watching her on television on her show EMERGENCY! in the 1970s), and I saw her final album with Liberty Records, "Yummy Yummy Yummy", and I assumed you wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. I'm glad that I was wrong. I love what you did with this song!
@stellaVistaАй бұрын
Actually, Yummy was her first song where I really took notice and an interest in her! When my interest in easy listening and exotica started, I was collecting the book series REsearch, which eventually did this "Incredibly Strange Music" book, where collectors talked about their favourite records. It was The Cramps who actually mentioned Julie for her "vapourising" vocals and the downright lewd interpretation of Yummy. I head heard some of her songs here and there and liked them, but thanks to The Cramps, I decided to dig deeper on her. I did two more songs from that album, but decided to drop one of them for now. Strangely enough: My favourite mixes so far (Mood for love & round midnight) are flopping hard with the views.
@TheRegularjoe1365Ай бұрын
@@stellaVista I didn't really know her from Fly Me to the Moon until she had passed. Once a year the New York Times does this mass obituary of folks who passed in the previous calendar year and she was on it and I read her bio there and then on a couple of other places and was instantly intrigued - I liked her self-deprecatory comment about her voice. I doubt it would fit the current project but her take on "I Want You For Christmas" is adjacent to Yummy Yummy Yummy for cranking the sultriness.

I bought a lot of easy listening/exotica in the late 80s/early 90s, for almost next to nothing. Shortly after it became one of the first retro-trends and prices for old vynil went through the roof and some very good compilations (Capitol´s Ultra Lounge compilation series is highly recommended) came in very handy. Julie´s voice always stood out of them all. She has a timbre that just commands attention and makes the mind wander ( I can only imagine the effect her voice must have had on straight men during her heyday in the 50s) I remain totally fascinated by the way her isolated voice totally transforms in melody when you place her inside of other songs. It´s as if she´s actually singing to each melody you place her in. I never noticed this phenomena with any other mash-up I did.

sV - You've managed to reveal something that's quite special to me. The music histrionics are absolutely "spot on" from my understanding, but your brain managed to complete the entire circle with this idea. I do love hearing Bowie's vocals in this respect, which just slaps you across the face at how much more music he should have accomplished, without taking any breaks. I love them all.

I just rode my bike along Hansa Studios in Berlin (right next to where the Wall used to be) on Sunday and thought about that Bowie wrote and recorded the lyrics to Sound And Vision there. On my way home, I passed the house where he had rented his flat in Potsdamer Strasse, which is right around the corner from my street, and I guessed that the "electric blue" room with the "pale drawn blinds" in which he waited for "the gift of sound and vision", must have been right there. Funnily enough: Pet Shop Boys have a flat in the same neighbourhood, for the times they chose to stay in Berlin.
