Tr listening to this music when you're flying an agricultural aircraft at 4 feet off the ground at 120 knots! Exhilarating!

Hello fromNew Zealand! I am currently playing the Kronke Tarantella and Cavatina with my trio. It is hard to find information about the composer and the music. Do you have any information or sources you could share? Thank you!😊

Ulla...if the English Horn plays the last note long, you must also play the last note long. That's straight from Orchestral Playing 101.

I suppose you’re right in general terms. In this case the conductor, Maestro Viotti, specifically asked me to play my phrase different than the English horn (especially the last note short) intentionally creating a difference between the two instruments imitating the courtship between the two voices.

Un chef d’œuvre interprété par une des grandes flutistes du moment. Tout y est: musicalité, intention, phrase. Comment réciter une histoire? Cette interprétation est un exemple pour tous les flutistes! Bravo!

Oh my goodness, gracious. The flutist and the english hornist were absolutely perfect and BRILLIANT!! Then the horns and then the strings. Then the rest of the orchestra, and the conducter was absolutely PHENOMENAL!! An absolutely beautiful performance!!

Excellent playing, Ulla! I remember also having played Hindemith's flute sonata when I was a student at the Music Conservatory in Denmark. But I never really liked this sonata, and I still don't. The flute part is great, but the piano part is mostly rubbish. Only in the third movement does Hindemith finally get his act together and displays genuine inspiration.

Love your playing Ulla. Wasn't acquainted with this piece but you play it beautifully. Loved watching your performances of the complete Beethoven symphonies on dvd with Frühbeck de Burgos.

I was searching for a performance of this that came close to the interpretation I think the piece demands, especially that second movement! So many emotions to convey. Yes! Thank you for this performance.

Very nice! My wife quoted somebody on Facebook as saying that no one can listen to the Overture without thinking of the Lone Ranger. I looked for this video to show her what it makes me think of. I was once a serious high school woodwind student. The oboe was my second instrument, but became my favorite; I made my own reeds. I got to play English Horn (borrowed) from time to time. I learned this part and played it a hundred times for my own amusement. The height of my double-reed career was playing oboe and English horn with a full orchestra, for a community theater production of The Sound of Music. That score has some memorable solos for both instruments.

This is one of those rare arrangements that actually kind of eclipse the original piece and leave you wondering why the composer didn't do it that way in the first place. The original solo piano arrangement is a masterpiece that totally augurs Messiaen, but this really ties the whole Faun and Syrinx reference/homage together. Major props, sell this arrangement and get it published so it can become another staple in the Impressionist flute repertoire!
