Are other inks made for fountain pens not waterproof? Like Waterman or Pelican?
@KrisDeBruineStudioКүн бұрын
Hi. Great question. I have not used Waterman, but on their website I learn it is NOT waterproof. Similarly, I have not used Pelican, but from what I can find online it is not waterproof.

I do not use white. When I do need white to embellish snow on a Christmas tree I use thick white gouache.
@KrisDeBruineStudioКүн бұрын
I agree! Gouache is a great option for embellishing white details.

Came here on yt, terrified of even halving my big sheets but that bold ripping you filmed gives me confidence 😅
@KrisDeBruineStudio11 күн бұрын
You can do it!! As long as you have a good straight edge...and hold it down firmly, the paper rips quite easily. I find it is easier to rip than to cut with scissors. Have fun!!
@Lovendino41115 күн бұрын
Oh! I use this style of painting on my pieces, but sometimes I'm kinda scared to commit- especially when doing the backgrounds- coloring a large portion of the drawing. Colors seem to "desaturate" the ink, making it look faded. Regardless, thank you for the tip! 😊

I tried making Payne’s Grey the other day and managed to get something similar using the paints I had, which was ultramarine, yellow ochre and something just called crimson. It looks nice!

Ms kris is that an aqua elite brush you are using?what # of size? Thanks
@KrisDeBruineStudio11 күн бұрын
Yes. These are all Princeton Aqua Elites. However, I use three different brush sizes: Quill #6, Round 16 and Round 8. I move from large brush to smaller brushes as I move through the painting process.

But what about, how can it dry when it is still wet up under that plastic sleeve? I don't think that is possible?
@KrisDeBruineStudioКүн бұрын
The bristles dry eventually. All brushes have some kind of ferrule to hold the bristles to the handles. Some are plastic (as with these Quill brushes) others are metal ferrules. Either way the water gets under ferrule and will eventually dry. I haven't had a problem with it. Hope this helps.

Excellent advice. I have been an artist all my life but just recently decided to come "out of the closet" after being an engineer and a professional administrator. I look back with sadness at all those decades lost doing something that did not inspire my life. I am now in my mid-fifties, and it was just less than one month ago that I reviewed my life and had my epiphany moment, where I realized that I have always been an artist since I was a little child.

Thank you for making this video, this clarify my needs for both of the brush, the question is do you have a recommendation for the size if I usually use an A5 size sketchbook? I'm thinking to get number 6 aqua elite for the first, what do you think? I usually only use ink but wanna try to watercolor on my sketchbook too to make it more colorful 😆
@KrisDeBruineStudio25 күн бұрын
I usually don't paint that small. I usually use A4 or A3 size paper. However, the Princeton Aqua Elite Quill #6 has such a fine point, I can paint small details with it.
@kevinlim627524 күн бұрын
Thank you for your answer! I bought the aqua elite size 6 yesterday from a local shop and it's great! The tip is so fine and it holds a decent amount of water. I use A5 (A4 when opened flat to sketch a spread) sketchbook because I usually do urban sketch and it's the perfect size for me to bring outside 😁
@KrisDeBruineStudio23 күн бұрын
I'm glad you like the brush. I hope it works well for you in your urban sketching adventures!!

oh, and here's a cheeky little tip for the reflection-- you can always walk to the other side of your canvas to see it the other way around and check if your shapes are accurate.
