Do you do everything purposefully here, following a pre-determined script? Or are you kind of making it up as you play? I'm just wondering as I am learning the drums and play by feel but in the verses sometimes you hit the mid tom, sometimes the floor tom, but as far as I could tell the sequence is the same.. so I am wondering if that was intentional or if that was based on the moment? Also your cymbal hits, were those planned out or in the moment?

Hey man. I watched it back to see what I did. Think this was one of the first times we did I Thank God - I’m usually a predetermined script person especially when we introduce songs. Some things I do make up in the moment, it’s good to get a balance of key parts and interpolation because it’s time consuming (and in my own opinion, unhealthy!) to carbon copy a song. The hits you’re referring to are part of the Housefires version, so it was pre planned. I try not to be overly spontaneous so that the band find it easy to follow me. The more predictable I am, the better they play 🤩

@@nldblanch I appreciate you responding to me! I have actually been a bass player for about 25 years but a few years ago the Lord put it on my heart to learn drums. I was actually serving on bass when my church put this song on the list. However, I am so enamored and intrigued by the drums, that I learn both the bass and drum parts for each song while rehearsing for the weekend services. So while learning the drums for this song, I found your video! I am playing this weekend and while it's a chore I am in the process of learning both the bass and drums for 4 songs again. Although I already know the bass for 3 of the songs.

Keep doing it sir. I personally love watching videos with "real" feeling. I'm no where near the drummer I would like to be. I play and play serving my church and my Lord. Strive for excellence my man, but remember your goal is worship for Him! Thought you sounded great! Love the flapping moon-gel. Reminded me of my own set, lol.

Yo this is awesome I really want to learn to play this song is there anyway you could teach me to play this? I can pay you for lessons or even a drum sheet
@nldblanch8 ай бұрын
Hi there! I am a uni student right now so don’t have the capacity to teach any students. Not sure if I can sell sheet music for it due to licensing. If you know how to play drums already try watching on 0.5x speed to pick up some of the parts. Otherwise, try out Drumeo - they’re a great place on KZbin for drummers! Hope this is helpful 😃

You sound phenomenal, only thing I would say is to work on your EQing for your kick drum and a vanilla mix for your drums (equal blend where nothing overwhelms everything else). Keep going bro

I love watching these drums. And how God is doing something great in you. Something that looks so simple, yet these drum beats is helping someone. It definitely brought me more to the lord. ❤I’m glad you’re doing something that you like and is also bringing you to the Lord. May God bless you and keep it up no matter the great challenges you may face. And of course always surrender all your heart to the Lord. Always.

Thank you so much! That's so encouraging to hear. I really appreciate what you have said. Worship music has been something that has brought me so close to God. I'm so privileged to get to play in a worship team and provide a space for people to encounter God. God bless you!
