My name is Glen and I am the head of GSM, the Fortnightly Gay Social Meetup group based in Ipswich for all the Gay guys of Essex and East Anglia, that I set up with my Husband just over two years ago when we moved from London to Ipswich only to discover a very different world for Gay Men and the LGBTQ+ community in general. We discovered a very sad retrograde of the momentum towards acceptance and a huge lack of support or community and this is why we stood up and started GSM! The response to it and our growth has been amazing and just two years on we're booming and making a massive improvement for the lives of so very many Gay guys! Recently however the Rainbow Laces controversy in which Ipswich Town Football Clubs Captain , as I'm sure you already know, was the only one (19 of 20) who refused to wear the rainbow armband and as you can imagine it has kicked a bit of a hornets nest among our Gay guys because of the horrible message it presents to the fans, me personally in particular hence me, a total non football individual, looking into all this. Especially in light of my own horrible experiences with Football thugs and their homophobic abuse! About a year ago My Husband and I were walking past Ipswich station, side by side with our pinky fingers linked shoulder to shoulder when one of the ITFC fans clocked it and instantly began to chant "FAIRIES, FAIRIES, GET YOUR STABVEST!" which I instantly challenged saying "WTF did you just say!?" and pointing to all the multiple police positioned all over the area at which point more and more joined in as they continued to march past towards the pub opposite completely unphased like it was nothing to them! I of course was shocked and horrified and now we have a captain who feels he can give the message to all the fans that it's ok to be homophobic! I reached out to my hundreds of members of GSM to challenge The Rainbow armband refusal but out of the hundreds of members I only got support from a tiny few (single digits!) no surprises there! I was angry but not entirely surprised. So, again, I thank you deeply and profoundly on behalf of all the Gay guys of GSM and I will share this video with them all to show them some positivity around the march towards Gay acceptance in Football! Keep up the good work!

Between scouting and selling we work a lot with talent - we aclimate players to european football rigors, give them technical and tactical support in real play on clubs and fields... ...talent wouldn't be so well prepared otherwise.

The problem with Ireland is there is too many sports for a small nation. We have football, Gaelic football, Hurling and Rugby. The highest population is in Dublin. And football is played way more with children. From growing up in the 80s to now you never see kids playing rugby or Gaelic on the streets or grass fields. It’s always jackets for goal posts. Gaelic is popular in all other counties but it’s only certain areas in Dublin. The ones that are the posh areas along with Rugby. But still have football teams too in the posh areas. And in alot of cases there kids are told they can play both sports but when they hit a certain age and there told to pick one. There dads expect them to choose Gaelic or rugby. Football is the working class game. The highest emotions and euphoria and tv audiences came in the Jack Charlton era and then again when we qualified for other tournaments. Both Gaelic and rugby couldn’t compete. We had street parties after the games and our das missing work. Getting off early from school if you were lucky going to lansdowne or ion the tele. The country was at a standstill. No other sport has got near them days. Dublin is way way way more football ⚽️. The country is Gaelic/ Rugby. And the government all come from posh areas or from the country. And that’s why they invest more in Gaelic and rugby. It’s a class thing. Even though most of the population is in Dublin and football ⚽️ is the most played sport. Don’t forget there are football fans down the country aswell that would pick football over rugby and Gaelic games too. All round football has bigger numbers if you add it up. ⚽️
