Dont doubt the skill at all, but this seems so redundant. Like... okay, you "hit" him, but in a real-world situation that would probably do almost nothing. Just turns the fight from who can utilize the most power, strength, and technique at all once into "who can do the edgiest anime inspired feints/ parries and barely touch the opponents pinkie and win. What Im saying is: this is equivalent of watching 2 hand touch football.... yeah. Theres tons of athleticism at display. But its truly unimpressive ultimately.

Not gonna stop the momentum. Sure, you could cut the hands, but the sword is still moving to cut you. Blocking and attacking seems to be a hallmark of longsword fighting. I see a lot of hand sniping in Kendo, not so much in HEMA, but it's very much still there.

Hi there, this came up in my recommended and I am completely unfamiliar with fencing really but wanted to see more in this style. I particularly like the way that you move where you have to take big steps, anticipating what you are going to do with the blade presumably because it looks so heavy? Anyway really cool but just a cursory glance across youtube, is this "german longsword fencing"? I ask because other clips don't seem to look like the way these two do, maybe it's just a matter of speed but wondering if there's a particular name for this style?
@KyleThrush2 ай бұрын
@@sweetsoad Thanks for your comment! We are doing German Longsword but with particular focus on carrying out the style of Joachim Meyer, most other people posting on KZbin sadly neglect the art of this style and instead do “what works in a tournament”
@porkupineexe68622 ай бұрын
I gotta ask, I’ve seen it in a few of these videos of yours: what’s with the crane stance before you strike? Are you just waiting to be in measure?
@KyleThrush2 ай бұрын
I started raising my front knee in preparation for certain actions to look more like the Meyer Woodcuts! After using it a lot i am starting to see more practical applications: -fencers will create space if i telegraph taking a large step (which allows me to pursue) -it gives the other fencer an additional distraction which is an additional disadvantage -it disguises how far i can lunge from the position Hope that helps 🙌
