What do you think that Mechanical Enginners will gonna survive in this world where, Computer science eng. is ruling! I mean I know I am watching this video after 3 years but...I found you attractive in this field. I just wanna ask that I am persuing my mech eng. from this year and I'll be passed out by 2027 probably, so will I be able to make money or I'll be just left out with a paper known as degree. Indireclty asking about placements after opting this branch and employment status. By the Way thank you so much for sharing this video and LOVE FROM INDIA🙂

Thanks for sharing. I graduated from UA (Tucson) in 1986 with an ME. Glad I did. Your grades are sort of like mine, especially in Calc III and Thermodynamics, but I passed those with Ds. No Fs, but two Ds and mostly Bs and Cs, I got all As in non-STEM classes. But I did it. Back then, no computers, no YT tutorials, no Googling, nothing! Pure and simple texts and tutors!! Just get through it guys, bc you won't use it much again, especially now in the 2020s. I do everything now. I fix things, design things, and repair things (my techs do it mostly) as a Licensed Mechanical and Electrical Contractor in Texas! Great money and no brow-beating corporate bosses. Except for my clients of course!!! thanks for sharing young JohnnyQ!!

Hi Johnny, Thanks for helping me out to know more about mechanical engineering. I'm graduating from high school right now and I'm currently applying for scholarship. To be honest, I like math and I've always interested in robotics and designing products. Unfortunately, I didn't go to private school and as a daily school students, I don't really have a chance to explore more about it due to a tighten budget of schools ☹️ . Anyway, thanks a lot for this video and I wish you all the best in life ❤️

All engineer majors require a lot of work. They just have different kinds of work. With mechanical engineering you will be learning the mechanics and intricacies of physical systems, everything from materials, to heat transfer, to circuits, to fluid mechanics, along with multiple levels of calculus, physics, and differential equations and linear algebra. With computer engineering, you will learn the same levels of math and physics, but your focus will be more on the electrical side, along the lines of electrical engineering combined with computer science. From what I’ve seen electrical engineering concepts require a lot of theoretical math to compute electromagnetic waves and signals. Theres also a healthy amount of coding. I don’t say this to stress you but both paths require lots of work. Personally, I originally was going to go with computer engineering, but after doing some research I’ve fallen in love with mechanical systems. I am pursuing mechanical engineering. I will say you don’t have to be super smart in math, but you will need to apply yourself and try your best to understand it and get better as you go. There will be a lot of math in your course curriculum, and you don’t want to run away from it. Embrace it, engineers need math just like a woodsman needs his axe. The better you are at using your tools the better you are at your profession, and math and physics are very important tools for the engineer to utilize. Good luck!

A Question that is in my mind for a longer time is that I have to go to the military in greece for 1 year and then I want to re-do my greek high school because I didn't do it so by the time I will finish I will 25 years old. So the question is: do you guys think that is too old to later compete with younger engineers for a job?
@superjohnyquany
@superjohnyquany 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Kosta! Definitely not too old! There were plenty of other engineering students I met in college that were 30, 40 and even 50+ years old! Some were veterans using their GI bill to go back to school and some others were parents that wanted to switch careers. One thing I noticed with the older students was that they were more focused in class because they knew exactly what they wanted for their career and it motivated them to study hard and do well. I totally believe you can do it!! 👍🏽

Good question Huncho! I definitely feel you too because I struggled with algebra and geometry throughout high-school. My parents had me go to a ton of tutors after school so I could at least keep up with class! I'm gonna be honest, the Mechanical Engineering courseload is very difficult and can be overwhelming. 50% of students drop out within the first year. That being said, it's totally possible for you to be successful as long as you put in the work! I struggled throughout the first couple years of college but when I started really applying myself, paying more attention in class and taking my career seriously, that's when things started to turn around for me. I hope that helps. I definitely believe you can do it if you really want to! Mechanical engineering is a great career that pays well and the practical skills/knowledge you learn will translate into so many other areas of your life!

What's the difference between mechanical engineer and aerospace engineer?
@superjohnyquany
@superjohnyquany 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Lazar, that's a really good question! Thanks for asking! They're very similar actually in terms of coursework. Some schools like University of California, Irvine actually combine these two programs into one department because of how much they overlap. That's because aerospace engineers pretty much learn the same exact Engineering disciplines as mechanical engineers (fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, machine design, etc.) except it's specifically within the context of aerospace applications. I actually took Thermodynamics at UCI during a summer course and throughout that class, many of the problems and examples we solved during class were based off of on aerospace applications. Mechanical engineers also study and learn a lot about aerospace applications as well but they also spend a lot of time solving problems within the context of other industries, sectors and engineering disciplines as well. For example, as a mechanical engineer I also took courses about Microelectronic Fabrication for consumer electronic devices and Internal Combustion Engines for traditional cars and hybrid electric vehicles. Long story short: Mechanical engineering is more broad. Aerospace engineering is very similar except the coursework may be more focused on applications specific to the aerospace industry. Hope that helps!

It definitely was for me!!! But I also know people who thought it was easy because things just clicked for them super fast! If you're good at math and physics, mechanical engineering should be pretty straightforward for you. If you're like me, it will be really hard initially but if you stick with it, you WILL get it! 👍🏽 I struggled throughout my first 4 years but started getting straight A's and B's after that! Hope that answers your question more clearly. Thanks for leaving a comment! 😁

Hi Jessica, thanks for leaving such a great question! Mechanical Engineering is definitely a great choice if you're interested in product design and development which it seems like you are, specifically in the consumer electronics industry! That being said, you could also be an electrical engineer, a materials engineer or a chemical engineer and still work on these types of products because they very much often require lots of different type of engineers working to develop and improve these products! Mechanical engineering is great because you will study many different engineering disciplines that will make you very versatile. You will take courses related to materials science, structural mechanics, fluid mechanics, electrical engineering, etc. Some other engineering majors may not study as many different topics that cross over into other engineering disciplines. I hope that makes sense and is helpful! 😁👍🏽

@superjohnyquany
@superjohnyquany 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Abigail! So awesome hearing from you, thanks for leaving a great question! To be honest, I got a C in AP Calculus in high school so I wasn't very good at it either! But yes, in general, you will need to be somewhat proficient in math and physics to succeed in the engineering workplace. Which is why there's a big emphasis in college engineering curriculums on the higher levels of math. Single variable calculus, differential equations and multivariable calculus are some courses you have to look forward to. And honestly, I struggled through them all 😅. But there's hope!!! After spending years and years in college practicing and practicing, you WILL be solid in the math skills needed to succeed in the workplace! In graduate school, I actually ended up teaching a Fluid Mechanics course which I failed during my 3rd year of undergrad (crazy right?!). To answer your other questions on basic technology and general construction principles. It's definitely useful to understand the basics and those are all things you will learn and be exposed to throughout college so no worries if you aren't familiar with them now. Hopefully that helps! Let me know if you're curious about anything else. 😁

One of the best parts about Mech. Engineering is that you get exposed to a variety of Engineering disciplines throughout your coursework such as Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, Machine Design, etc. Also, I'd highly recommend getting involved with some type of engineering extracurricular club if you want to go into those fields of interests you described. There are clubs and societies such as the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the Society of Automotive Engineers (Formula SAE ) that design projects such as race cars and UAVs for competitions! Those types of activities would give you great experience and open up doors for future opportunities in those fields!
