I briefly worked with 3dGO on a Silicon Graphics Personal Iris 4D/35 Turbo around 1993 or 1994. Its boolean functions really stood out, but the renderer was cumbersome. Everything looked like dull plastic.

Hi! I've been looking forever for this video, thanks a lot! Little question though, do you also have access to the audiotapes for the book? I've been looking for them for a while too with no success.
@deltaray3Күн бұрын
Probably somewhere I have them buried in stuff, but I don't have a cassette player anymore 😮
@PatodufliКүн бұрын
@deltaray3 That's a bummer. Regardless, thanks again for sharing the videotapes! Did you get them because you were studying Russian as well, and if so, how good are you in that language right now?

3D is just more fun back then, things were just a little bit off, it was "fun", now I am using Blender and everything looks SO GOOD and Realistic by default, everything just looks like a photo and it is everything we have been trying to achieve served to us on a plate with little to no effort, I will always be appreciative of that. But still...retro CGI looks so FUN!!! Looking at the video again....gosh everything took so long to render back then to get those terrible CGI quality, but it is so terrible that it is good now, ha ha ha, now Blender can achieve all that in real time with more than ten times the quality [Real Time Global Illumination, Real Time Reflection, Real Time Subsurface Scattering, Real Time sheen, fresnel and clear coat based on on actual environmental reflections, etc... That's it, I am going back to old CGI, it looks so terrible I love it!

I worked for Creative Computers (Centaur) back then. It was pretty heady days for the 3D industry. There was a definite sense of community between all the computer nerds and the guys working in 3D at large companies getting systems they could actually produce stuff with at home. Between Imagine and the Video Toaster for Lightwave, a lot of early pros bought a lot of Amigas. I interned at Symbolics at night while I was working for Creative and eventually moved into full time CG work along with a lot of my contempraries. Oh, and I designed the packaging for this video.

This episode always bugged me. This environment is a recreation from a book to house a human. Ok, understandable. Now for someone play poker, craps, slotts etc in a casino and win then the full understanding of the games including the rules would have to be laid out in detail in the book otherwise the games would be gibberish to them. The only possible way they could recreate with all the games intact with rules would be from scans of the human's brain that would have to already had a full understanding of the games and rules.
