January was my first work friend at my first job out of Highschool. She covered me with protection and told me the truth about myself. May she rest in peace. I know that people say positive things about folks when they pass, but she really was one of the most positive people you could ever meet. She was so welcoming and looked out for those that couldn’t defend themselves. She was never confrontational, she was puuuuure charisma and disarmed the angry with ease. Thank you for your mentorship and loving care, I will always carry you with me.

What a beautiful documentary. Just wanted to reach out and give her mama a big virtual hug. And yes, I know the Boyzone song and will never listen to it again without thinking of January. I’m glad it brings her mom some comfort. Much love from Calgary, AB ❤

An excellent piece of work! I am so grateful to all who made this happen. To know, after my own activism starting in 1970, that there are such current activists making the world safer for all of us, gives me hope for ongoing change. We need to nurture all the young people going through any distress; that is a good way to live!.

What a gorgeous, beautiful, vulnerable, triumphant documentary! This is such an important film and so very accessible. Creators Vinay Giridhar and Alex Amar Sangha follow the lives of four LGBTQ+ South Asian people as they face the overwhelming pain, fear and rejections that confront them. As the title suggests, it is through the courage of these individuals and those that ultimately support them that they are able to emerge as their true selves to serve as role models for others. Share this film - someone’s life surely depends on it. Amar, I am so very proud of all you continue to do and in particular for the Sikh and Punjabi communities. My heart is full….congratulations on a remarkable documentary.

Sat Sri Akal! Thank you Vinay Giridhar, Alex Sangha, the entire team for creating the space for Jaspal Kaur Sangha, Amar Sangha, Kayden Bhangu, Jag Nagra (and spouse and children), Avtar Singh Nagra, Rajwant Kaur Nagra, and Harv Nagra to share their stories with bravery, courage, authenticity, vulnerability, and warmth. The film creates a safe space for queer South Asians in the diaspora and their families of origin and choice - as well as those who are friends and potential allies - to collectively emerge from the shadows, be in touch with the light within and without, and reach into the heart of self-compassion, as Kayden so poignantly points out. Pranams, Namaste, and Om Shanti.

January LOVED me! she used to come plop herself in my chair and exclaim my name. I've assisted her in all lifeskills. She was the most exuberant person I've ever met! I was shocked, mad. sad, at how SHE was presented in HER coffin. She used to barrel past all the check ins just to talk to me. I sure do miss her.

She is now 27 and came out to us as our Transgender daughter at 15. Our second born daughter came out to us at 15 also, as our Pansexual daugher stated "I'm Pansexual like you dad". Their mother, my wife to whom I am faithful, is straight and lovingly supports the three of us.

Thank you SO much to everyone involved in this beautiful and loving tribute. As a front line worker I knew January to be bratty, mouthy, and absolutely fabulous! You could alwas tell she was in the centre because the volume would increase ten notches :) It's so great to be able to see that she had such a wonderful friend group, loving mother and made such huge impacts in her communities. Much love to her, I will never forget her.

She seems like a lovely person. I wish there had been more footage of January herself included in this documentary, singing and at events. The best way to get to know someone is through them ... directly.

@@shervancouver I understand. And thank you for so kindly tagging me in January's event video where she DOES sing! It's not just her singing. I, like many, never met her. And when you see a person communicating her personality in so many ways it's easy to see why she was so well loved.
