Dear Sir. An empty space can be filled with any card and work as a cell. A card from the stuck can go only to an empty space. Am I correct?
@SolitaireWithTheCardGuy7 күн бұрын
Yes. An empty space must be filled from the pack before any shifting of cards. Any card can claim this empty position, but try to get Kings there. It helps. Good luck!

This game looks great but I can’t find rules for this game anywhere. Were those rules published but the United States Playing Card Company in 1950 also? When I look up idiots delight I find three very different games: Aces Up (Drivel Patience/Firing Squad version), King Albert, and Perpetual Motion. However I also read “idiots delight” is a a pejorative term for any patience or card solitaire. Does this game have an alternative name?
@SolitaireWithTheCardGuy12 күн бұрын
I found this version of Idiots Delight in a card game book by Vernon Quinn published 1933. It's described as a simplified version of the game "according to Hoyle." Unfortunately no other game names were provided.

Card guy. This doesn’t look like the aces up game I’m familiar with. Can you do the other aces up, with the four card tableau and the discard pile? I think this version you play is more commonly known as Easthaven.

Circling back, the Aces Up version and rules were published by the United States Playing Card Company back in 1950. In looking up rules for Easthaven, many sites call it "originally called Aces Up." How do your Aces Up rules differ? Curious ...
@incredulous7213 күн бұрын
@@SolitaireWithTheCardGuythe aces up I’m familiar with is also known as Drivel Patience, Firing Squad, and Idiot’s delight (and funnily enough its nothing like the idiots delight you just posted!). Gameplay for Aces Up works as follows (from Wikipedia): 1. Deal four cards in a row face up. 2. If there are two or more cards of the same suit, discard all but the highest-ranked card of that suit. Aces rank high. 3. Repeat step 2 until there are no more pairs of cards with the same suit. 4. Whenever there are any empty spaces, you may choose the top card of another pile to be put into the empty space. After you do this, go to Step 2. 5. When there are no more cards to move or remove, deal out the next four cards from the deck face-up onto each pile. 6. Repeat Step 2, using only the visible, or top, cards on each of the four piles. 7. When the last four cards have been dealt out and any moves made, the game is over. The fewer cards left in the tableau, the better. To win is to have only the four aces left. When the game ends, the number of discarded cards is your score. The maximum score (and thus the score necessary to win) is 48, which means all cards have been discarded except for the four aces, thus the name of the game. --- This is also the version of aces up that is available on phone apps. Also many other KZbinrs show this version of Aces Up (but not to the high quality of your videos!)

After playing a round, I realized that getting Aces early in the game can block your ability in unwinding/rewinding, hindering progress. So it's best not to fill up the empty spaces right away and risk getting an Ace early in the game.

I’m confused learning this cause some ppl will place cards on each foundation that match the first foundation only. And some people will match the cards to the foundation above it only. Which is the right way? And most ppl don’t replenish the reserve pile like you did. Trying so hard to learn this lol

The fun way is to play a card that already exists in ANY foundation above. The true way / challenging way is to play a card that exists in the foundation IMMEDIATELY above. Tough game to win! Thanks for writing.

I am confused. At one point, you said only kings can go in an empty spot but earlier in the game you had moved a queen into the empty spot.
@SolitaireWithTheCardGuy2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the note! Yes that may not have been clear. Here's the deal: when one of the 8 columns in your tableau is empty, ANY card may take the empty position. The difference is when you wish to move the King, it can only go to an empty column. In other words, a king can only move to an empty column, but an empty column can be filled with any card. I hope that helps! And thanks again for writing.

I have thought of a way to add strategy to this game, which is virtually all luck and can be frustrating if you don’t get the right cards. I’ve added a second way to pick up cards, which would be having three in a row - doesn’t matter what color, just ranking. If you have three in a row horizontally vertically or diagonally, you can pick those three cards up too. That adds strategy and makes it much more fun! What do you think?
