I have a freaking AMD FX6300 and a decently good GTX 1070. Is Ryzen 5 5600X my best choice if Im going to use my old GPU for a two or three years playing a older games and after that either upgrading my GPU or getting a completely new system?

I've been using an Intel i5-2500 since 2012. I've just decided to upgrade, and I bought the Rizen 5 5600x. I'm not a gamer. I just plan on using it for basic applications, working from home, spreadsheets, and surfing Internet. I'm sure this will last me 10 years or so.

Also, about the older Intel chips. I just did a upgrade for a friend, installed a 2600k/16gb/RTX 2060 for him. He was running a i5 4570/16gb/1080ti (in x8 mode) and still playing current AAA games with it and thought it was not too bad. Granted he had to turn some stuff down but to my surprise he was playing the new Warhammer 40k, Ghost of Tsushima and Helldivers 2 and was still happy. I got to watch him boot up and play on his new setup tonight and well....he found out what he was missing.

Heeey! You've got my case :D The air flow could be just a bit better but even with my 4.8 OC it doesn't get over 70c- I did a delid it and lapped the IHS for most of an entire Day and am using LM The CPU I had before this was an FX8350 , which felt no faster than the Phenom 955 I had before it (I even tried one of those dumb 9590s but returned it the next Day for my 4790k)- I have a special hatred for AMD's FX series, I was so disappointed with them. Then I got one of these and I'm still rocking it @ 4.8 with a 5700xt and some CL9 2133- just about the fastest DDR3 you can get- 8.4 calculations per nano-second is FAST for DDR3. The Ram here is 2400 but it's CL11 which is 9.1, so, it's slower, but still very good memory. There's higher mhz RAM, but they come with higher timings which offsets the mhz gains. DDR3 2133 CL9 is a bit rare/still kinda expensive for DDR3. I actually still hold the number 2 Firestrike CPU score for a 4790k/5700xt combo and the faster memory is what got me there and I know I could have gotten that number 1 spot but I had been tweaking the Overclock for a whole Week to get those scores and I was just worn out. If I'd just done the mildest of BCLK OCs I'd have had it. Overall I'm 84th and combined I'm 81st. There's no bottlenecking according to GPUBusy and real world gaming it always caps at 99% gpu usage- I'd not get any GPU much faster though, this is probably close to its limit. I also upgraded to the faster Memory not long after CP2077 came out- that faster Memory made a huge difference in my .1/1% lows and smoothed things out a lot- was using generic 1866 CL10 memory before that. I am at 1440p if anyone cares enough to read this long bummed comment. I am upgrading in a couple of Months- I've got some Money set aside but I need just a little bit more. I'm aiming at getting a Bundle deal from Microcenter for something like a 12900k/32gb or 48gb DDR5 6000 and a decent MB for around $400- that's the deal they have now but when I go to buy there might be something different/better- Microcenter has some really great Bundle deals if you're okay with previous Gen hardware. Jumping from a 4790k to a 12900k, that's gonna be nice! And I probably won't upgrade again for another Decade- we might not even be using Silicone anymore by then, we're so close to that 1nm mark! My Firestrike scores are: Overall: 20539, Graphics: 28911, Physics: 13837, Combined: 8401. It's the physics score (CPU) that I'm #2, I was just a few points off from #1 and the CPU doesn't OC quite as well as it used to so I'll never be able to get that #1 spot now- used to run it at 4.9 and have booted into 5.1, though any benches at 5.0/5.1 wouldn't finish without a BSOD- had to back off the OC to 4.8 though and will probably have to periodically step it down if I keep using it much longer. Once it's on secondary duty I'm getting rid of the OC completely and reverting it to stock settings since speed won't be important for it anymore. If you look up the 4790k/5700xt and order it by physics, I'm Sannyasi73 :D Well.... this turned into a bit of a rant that probably won't get read by anyone, heh. If you made it this far, and even if you didn't- hope you're having a good Day ;)

Actually u can run every game including starfield with that processor u just have to lower the settings rather than play on ultra. I have an i7 6700 which is slightly faster im playing every modern game i just play at medium to low depending on how graphically demanding the game is. Starfield im getting close to 60 fps and gameplay is good so thats the key just lower the settings. And using a 3080 with that processor isnt the greatest because the cpu has trouble keeping up. A better choice for the i7 4790? Gtx 1660 super is the best choice its what i use and have no problems.

Got this but I'll be honest here, i only got the X version because at the moment i bought it, it had a discount and it was cheaper than the non X version. At this point everyone knows both are basically equal. Also, i might warn any that my want to buy this cpu, i had to change its fan after 2 years because the temps were just not good, and around the time i had to renew the termal paste, i easily went over 95°C, and my pc constantly turned off. Even with new thermal paste and custom fan, i get to 85°C when stressed enough. It performs good but, if had enough space, i could slow cook some chicken in my case jeez

So, about 6 months ago, an old housemate threw away his gaming PC. It needed a new hard drive and some other minor things to get working. I just booted it up the first time yesterday after having it in storage since only to discover it was this CPU. The overclock was wrong, his memory wasn’t configured correctly and a few other things were amiss but for free, I couldn’t go wrong. This CPU along with 16 GB 1866 RAM and a GTX 980 (all of which were the original components mind you) was an insanely good steal

@45eno 13 күн бұрын
If your GPU, resolution and game is able to push FPS into ranges that hits your CPU limit then simply crank all your in game detail till it starts to slow down the FPS. That way you can maximize the GPU's performance and CPU's limit. If you run high end CPU's like a 7800X3D with a 6900XT and you want high FPS then simply take the load off the GPU by lowering in game detail settings and you get still utilize the speed of the CPU. For example if you are running lower resolution like 1080p but targeting 300+ FPS with a slower GPU just turn down in game detail as much as possible. People just need to understand how the bottleneck works and adjust resolution, game detail depending on where you bottleneck is. For most people never use ULTRA unless the game is easier to run and you have overkill GPU muscle. But on newer games drop down the detail to Medium or High to maintain desired FPS.
