So I have been on the fence about this. The only reason is that there are a million things that can go wrong with importing actions etc and I would feel really bad if I put something out there that was supposed to be helping peole but was actually causing problems. I am not an expert in these things and while I am proficient at what I do and making things work when problems arise, making sure other don't encounter them during the process is whole different monster. But I will think about this and do more research and see what I can come up with.

Sharing your step-by-step process for creating these actions is GOLD! Thank you for taking time to present the details. Now that we have the magic pixie dust to make the edits with ease, please plan an episode where you explain the function of each layer and how to use it. You have touched upon using this layer-stack model in a couple of your past tutorials, but more details would be very helpful. A reminder about your screen resolution. The print is so small it's very difficult to read. Can you please reset the resolution during your recordings so the screen is more readable? Thank you! Watching your channel for new material!
@WillGayPhoto
@WillGayPhoto 5 күн бұрын
I know the resolution has been an issue for some people. The problem is that when I use a non native resolution everything on my end is 4 times harder. The text is blurry, the photos are blurry and all of my work spaces do not fit and run over each other etc. And while I have everything setup so I can reset it all etc etc. The content takes me twice as long to produce because all of my tools are not in the spot they have been in for years. I am going to keep trying to figure out a solution because I want to produce content that is easy to watch. We are just at odds here because I like all my text small and my resolution at 4k. Its been a problem in the past at work because no one can use my setup because they can't read anything. So I do apologize and I don't want to make this sound like I am telling you "tough luck" because I am not, its just going to be a bit of a struggle while I work this out and find a happy medium. I appreciate the support and the comments. I will keep working on it!

I dont know exactly what is going on but a few things to try, with the timeline selected you can press "U" and that will show or hide the keyframes. Another thing is to make sure the footage you are editing is in a standard frame rate. If it was shot on a mobile device they can use variable frame rates and AE and PP don't play nicely with variable frame rates. Also make sure your timeline is zoomed out all the way, you can do this by usin the "-" (minus) key on your keyboard. Sometimes if you are zoomed into the timeline they will be outside of the view of the CTI you are in.

In order for Enfuse to understand which set of brackets to use you need to "Stack" them in lightroom. You do this by being in the library panel, select the set number of photos (in my case 5), right click one of the selected photos, Find "stacking" in the menu and hover your mouse over it, then select "group into stack" from the sub menu. While in the library panel you can also press Ctrl + G when you have your set number of photos selected to stack them.

Personal preference. Thats really it. I think a lot of photography in general deals in absolutes. X is the best brand, Y is the best editing software, Z is the greatest technique. For me I like to use what feels right, what equipment, cameras and software balance ease of use (for me) and work with my style of photography. If a camera doesn't feel right in my hand, or a RAW file does react to my edits the way I want, or a software doesn't manipulate color in a way that feels good to me I don't use it. I have seen other create stunning architecture work using luma-blending with no flash, some make mind blowing work with 20+ flash frames and 10 different pieces of software, etc etc. Its all personal preference. I have done this, at scale for over 10 years. I have used every software out there and LR Enfure has been the best one for me and my situation. I like to show it off and sing its praises but a lot works and if you can get results you are happy with using Lightrooms HDR, do it. I just don't personally like it is all.

Downloaded and unzipped and it did not create a folder but rather just put the plugin on my desktop. Lightroom refuses to see or recognize it and will not upload it. Any idea what I can do?
@WillGayPhoto
@WillGayPhoto 25 күн бұрын
I am not sure. If you are on windows make sure you aren't using a 3rd party app to extract the zip file. Winrar and others like it tend to cause issues. Z-zip is a good alternative if you must one. If you are on Apple OS I cannot help. I don't like or use mac OS any more. It should create a folder and then you point Lightroom to that folder to install it. The folder should be called "LREnfuse.lrplugin" if for some reason the unzipped folder is not called that, Lightroom will not recognize it. What you can do is either create a folder and name it that, then copy everything into that directory or rename that current folder to that name.

I back with a report of my comparisons. I shot a 5-bracket set of four rooms, then ran them through Aurora HDR 2018, Lightroom HDR merge, and LR Enfuse. I also included the single mid-exposure in the comparo LR Enfuse won. I used the same preset on all the pics then adjusted it to get the best version of the photo (it's the one Will shared in a different video and I entered a comment with the slider settings). Aurora introduces excessive barrel distortion - that's why I had switched to Lightroom merge a while back. Aurora also displayed additional shadow and color that caused an unrealistic look compared to the other two. Lightroom Merge does a decent job but Enfuse showed recognizably better detail in the window views and in the colors in pull-down translucent shades. The lighting was not as blown out. Lightroom seemed to render darker shadows and more blown out windows. Enfuse produced a more even dynamic range. The TIFs generated by LR Enfuse from 5 bracket shots (original RAW pics in the 18MB range) in the 162MB range. That is way bigger than the 16MB size of the Lightroom HDR .dng files generated from a merge. I want to do a bit more testing by taking the Enfuse TIF and running it through the Adobe DNG Converter to see if there is a loss of quality. My 16GB RAM Ryzen 7 laptop was choking when applying presets in Lightroom. The screen would go black for a few seconds while the processor was working. (I just tried it and neither the Adobe DNG Converter program nor Lightroom will import and change a non-RAW file to the smaller DNG format. I've got to think more on that one...Maybe try having Enfuse spit out a JPG instead of a TIF and see how editing will work on a JPG file. I know Mike from Inside Real Estate Photography does his editing with JPGs....) Update: I just tried having Enfuse generate a JPG from the 5-shot set. The resulting file size is in the 15MB range, WAY smaller than a TIF! I slapped the same preset on the four test photos and the results are very close. I will see if that reduction in file size improves working performance. That's the plan for now! Interestingly, the single mid-exposure RAW photo from the 5-bracket set produced a pretty decent photo with some editing. Once I focused on seeing what Enfuse could do, I tested blending in the flash shots I had taken in each room with the single photo and the merged brackets. I was surprised that the flash shots didn't really add much to the final photos (using 50/50 Luminosity blending). The benefit of adding flash probably depends a lot on the lighting in the room. One other thing while I am here. Changing the output file type in Photoshop from TIF to PSD seemed to really speed up moving a blended file back into Lightroom from Photoshop. That one tip alone was worth taking the time to watch and take notes! Thank you, Will!

Sometimes I run into an error with enfuse saying: "No Stacks containing selected photos were found. Note that the stacks must be in folders; stacks in collections are not supported at this time since plugins can't currently access this information. If you are trying to blend the selected images then please turn off the batch mode option." This happens when I stack the photos that I took on timing and then try to batch enfuse them. Anyone knows the answer to this? Thanks! Greatly appreciated.
@WillGayPhoto
@WillGayPhoto Ай бұрын
What it sounds like i shappening is that you are working from a collection of photos, not a specific folder of them. So there are stacks of images across multiple folders. LR does not allow plugins to work across multiple folders (LR and adobe issue). You will need to work out of the folder that images are in. So for me I organize everything into a folder with the property address and then import to LR. I then work out of that folder in LR as opposed to making a collection for those. You can blend the stacks individually if you turn batch mode off but you will need to work out of 1 folder of images. I hope that makes sense.

Hi Will. Thanks for your videos. It made me revisit Enfuse that I had not used for ... yearsss (I even found back the license I bought back then). Doing more HDR blending these days (for real estate) and was using lightroom HDR. Comparing side by side Enfuse seems to do a better job when there is bright windows but for some pictures, lightroom gives me a better result. So I'm doing both : once the photos are stacked, I run enfuse like you do, reimporting the result beside the stack, and then, (as my photos are still stacked), I run lightroom hdr in batch (which put the result on top of the stacks). As a result I then have both versions side by side and can quickly go over them and decide which one looks better to me. A quick trick in photoshop that will help you speed up your workflow a bit : when making your window selections with the pen tool, you can go over all your paths before transforming them to selection in once. As long as you close your path, you can start a new one without loosing the first one.
@WillGayPhoto
@WillGayPhoto Ай бұрын
Hi Eric. Glad to hear you revisited Enfuse. As I always say its not about saying what I do is best, or even best for all situations. I typically use a hybrid setup like you do. Enfuse is my starting point but if I have issues or I feel the blend isn't what I wanted I then use a different method. You are not the first, and probably will not be the last to point out the way I use the pen tool. If that works for you great, I have never liked drawing all my paths then making them all selections. In fact I have found it to be slower for me. But if it works for you it doesn't matter, its just how I do it and what works for my brain the best. I will be the first to tell you there is probably hundreds of things I do that are not optimal nor the best way, its just what works for me.

Will Lightroom Classic does have a batch procedure for created merged HDR images. Use the auto stack function to create the stacks. Since I shoot everything 5 auto bracket frames I have it default to auto stack by capture time. Also, when clicking on the merge HDR option one of the check boxes is for auto align which can be turned off. Finally, the resulting file is a DNG file so it has the same editing options Lightroom offers for DNG files including import into Photoshop as a smart object.
@WillGayPhoto
@WillGayPhoto Ай бұрын
That is not what I was talking about. There is no Merge to HDR Pro in photoshop 32 bit workflow that I know of that has batch processing capabilities. This video is not about Lightrooms HDR function, its about Photoshops 32 bit Merge to HDR Pro function. They are two different systems, file types, and workflows. I personally don't like Lightrooms HDR function, I find it be fairly mediocre but that is just my opinion. HDR Pro in photoshop has like a really crude way of doing batch processing but its extremely slow and doesn't have any file management capabilites sadly. If Lightrooms HDR works for you, great! But I don't like it and find it to be pretty meh.

Will, you "brought the goods" in this video! The steps you took are understandable. I especially was intrigued with the way you used the two masked layers at the top of the stack in Photoshop to make edits. You used Smart Objects - is that so you could pull up Camera Raw and change that top layer to use for the windows? I haven't seen Smart Object layers used before in real estate tutorials. That looks like a nice trick to use to adjust for the windows within Photoshop! You mentioned touching up the color casting - that is an area that would be helpful to see your steps on because there are different ways of accomplishing that. I'll need to try adding that second ambient layer at 50% Normal mode on top of the 50/50 luminosity layers to see if that helps with brushing out the orange cast that shows up from using a Luminosity blend. Thank you also for identifying the slider settings for your pre-HDR blend brackets. That makes it easy to grab those settings and create a Lightroom preset to try out. I already have a couple Photoshop Actions for the 50/50 blend and auto-align. I'll watch for your video walking through the steps to create that 5-layer stack from the flash and ambient layers. And at some point a tutorial on using RayaPro or Lumenzia, etc. to address the windows, please??? Thank you so much for your time and effort to share with the community!!!

Thank you! I appreciate the kind comment and feedback. I will make sure to add a color casting and Rayapro tutorial to my list. The actions I should have out soon. I got slammed this week with a new client and 13 new properties I had to get scheduled and done so its taken me away from the content creation a little bit. I will show you how I make all my actions and what each of them do. I don't always use smart objects. For the vast majority of me real estate work I just open them as layers. However if I am doing some high-end work or something that needs that really tight fine control I will open them as smart object layers. You are correct, having access to all that RAW data can really help with windows and areas that are too bright or dark. It can be a little overkill for some but for me its just how I have always liked to work. The 50% layer (or whatever works for you) has always really helped me keep those orange shadows in check. A lot of this is very fine, subtle changes as opposed to harsh ones because thats what looks the most natural and pleasing. There isn't a one size fits all way to do it but this is how I have learned to work quickly while still maintaining quality and making money.

I came across your channel a few days ago and was interested in your workflow. You are one of the few real estate photographers using luminosity masks. I watched your video a couple times and you were moving too fast to track and with too little narration of your steps. Would you please consider doing a "luminosity mask" tutorial and taking it step by step, explaining what you are doing, how you are moving the layers around in Photoshop and what modes you are using (Darken, Lighten, Luminosity, Color, etc.). At this point, it appears you are doing some effective editing, but there are not enough details to replicate your workflow. I feel like a dog watching someone play chess... The real challenge I have been chasing is to get good window pulls. Was shooting HDR using the Lightroom Merge function (will look into LR Enfuse at your suggestion). Been using a flash in the past couple months to produce a Luminosity 50/50 blend (ala Nathan Cool). But I have seen Raya Pro and Lumenzia and a couple other tools like that but almost all the online tutorials for those products are for landscape photography. Maybe you could compare doing a Darken Mode window pull with a flash (ala Rich Baum) to the same photo using Raya Pro and compare the workflow steps? I subscribed and will be watching for your upcoming tutorials. Thank you for taking time to share your expertise with the real estate photographer community on KZbin!

It's funny when I do a tutorial I get comments asking me to show me doing it in real time because the tutorial is too slow and when I do that I get comments asking me to slow down. lol This video was supposed to be at a really fast pace because I wanted to show people it is possible work at speed and not take hours to get photos done. But I will happily make a full tutorial breaking down everything I do at a much more even pace. I appreciate the comments and feedback! The biggest thing is that there is not a one-size-fits-all all approach to this. I will go into more detail in the tutorial but being able to switch window pull methods on the fly is going to be the best skill to have. The darken mode works really well for most cases but there are certain areas it falls short. Again, really appreciate the constructive feedback, and look for a tutorial soon!

Hi Will. You mentioned that LR doesn’t do the geometry as well as ACR/PS? Are they not both using the same engine (ACR)? Thanks!
@WillGayPhoto
@WillGayPhoto Ай бұрын
Essentially yes they are the same thing they are just implemented in different ways. But what I am talking about specifically is the guided alignment tools. ACR has better micro adjustments and control than Lightroom. If you hold alt (windows) while you are plotting the alignment guides you get a zoomed-in view and finer control over where you place the endpoints. In ACR that fine control is super fine, like pixel-perfect. In Lightroom, it's not. It's very jumpy and not as easy to work with. There are a few other architectural photographers on YT that prefer ACR for that as well. Lightroom however does have a better way of constraining to crop when you are using the sliders in the transform panel. Typically for real estate work, I use Lightroom because of the speed, and for high-end and architecture stuff I use ACR in Photoshop because of its much finer control.

Great video and information. I just bought mine and paid 3.5 pounds or euros, but I believe it is well worth more. Maybe I can donate once I make my business profitable :)

Great video! Helped a ton. I was using a vietnamese company for photo editing before but I didn't like how clinicly they edited the photos. Mostly it looked very fake and unnatural... Hence why I'm leaning more towards editing them myself. Now that I discovered Enfuse it'll be much better in terms of quality/feel. But yea I probably lose 30 minutes extra per house edit. I think it's worth it. :) Where could I find good editors you reckon (not fiverr)? Maybe upwork? Thanks!

I feel you on the editors. They can be all over the place. I use Fotober for all my real estate work. I find them to have really great quality and outside of an occasional error thay are fantastic. I work with one specifically, they found me on Instagram and offered a free edit and I was really happy with it. If you go on instagram and search accounts for Tammy_at_Fotober or gracie.editor they are both really good editiors and can connect you with someone from the team to help you out. Another good option is Pixlmob. They are a marketplace for real estate editors specifically and you can sort them by price, style, rating etc. I have had good results there but also some bad ones.

I get crazy sun flaring when I have on my UV filters. The image quality always looks better without. 🤷‍♂️

@WillGayPhoto what do think about the Photoshop HDR Pro 32bit? Compared with LR enfuse
@WillGayPhoto
@WillGayPhoto Ай бұрын
I think my biggest thing with 32bit is that its largely outside of the 8bit workflow that 99% of the world uses. Its not easy to use or understand for a large majority of people, including myself. Nearly all monitors are 8bit, including clients monitors. Photoshop will always render 8bit previews at 66.7% zoom or less and largely the gains are purely theoretical and outside of most gamma encoded images. I like the speed, ease of use and end product from enfuse when I am working with my images. But its what works for me, and alot work. So if its something you can easily use and get great results, I would highly suggest using it. But for what I do and like to use, it just doesn't work.

Alright this comment got me thinking. I am going to experiment with it. You might be on to something here. I was coming at this from the perspective of keeping it in a 32bit file, not toning in ACR and then having it compress it down to a 16bit file. I do like enfuse's workflow better for its batch processing ease. but this was a good subject to bring up. I will keep working with this and see how I like it.

Yeah, tested this on this weekend. Found that Enfuse (used default settings) is better with interior stacks but when I tried it with exteriors then PS HDR 32 bit version was much better. Less strange halos (when buildings were backlit), more accurate colors, also more natural look etc. But sure, Enfuse is much more convenient to use.

In the future I will wait for 4K processing to be done before I go live with these. You should be able to auto translate to whatever language you prefer.

For this particular video it's not done processing. It still needs a little while to process it as it is only the lowest resolution available. My other videos you are able to auto translate them to Spanish. So I'm going to give it a little while to finish processing and see if they show up. If they don't I will look into it.

hey Will, another cracking video. I'm curious - If I understand correctly you fire the flash forwards (with its diffuser) rather than backwards and bouncing of rear wall / ceiling. I get the advantage regarding avoiding color cast but doesn't this approach give you lots of hard shadows to deal with? (My own technique is to bounce backward into a large round circular white reflector when walls are coloured - but i confess it is a bit of a p.i.t.a!
@WillGayPhoto
@WillGayPhoto Ай бұрын
Yes! it does give me hard shadows, but I have found that no matter what you do you're going to be dealing with some kind of a problem you need to correct out. This is kind of the one I have chosen because I have found it to be the easiest to work around. The pros are Better flash power Near 0 color casting from walls etc Better fill from the flash A small round white circle reflection on windows as opposed to a huge white flash reflection of the wall behind you. Which makes post editing way easier. The cons are Shadows can be a bit more defined and harder to deal with. I plan to kind of go over this more when I get a vacant home to shoot and then I can show what I'm doing. Then we can talk about the different ones. But this has been the one I have found to be the least amount of editing to deal with and to be the easiest to correct out. It doesn't make it right and it doesn't make it better than anyones else but it is what has worked for me. And when I was shooting six to seven homes a day it made the editing so much faster than bouncing it off the ceiling or a white wall or a door etc. or using a modifier.

That's cool Will - it seems a large part of shooting real estate is finding techniques to resolve problems - and you're right, there's no one simple fix that'll solve all the problems all of the time. Always good to see how others address things and understand their reasoning.. cheers Neil

Smallrig does have a cage for the Nikon Z8 with an Arca mount on the side for vertical shooting. However, it's only available for the Z8 when paired up with the MB-N12 battery grip. The Smallrig part number is 3982.

Yeah I unfortunately had to have the "special Edition" 🤣 so there isn't. But the QnA page for the night eagle on their website has someone asking that and another user answered saying it does have one. And it does not. Lol but yeah the regular cage and most other do. 👍
