His mom is a Party member, that presumably has something to do with it. A lot of people used to go to Australia from China and never return. That might not be quite so common anymore, but it seems like they're still very wary about granting visas. Besides that, someone in the government doesn't like what we're doing. It's pretty obvious Professor Li was threatened, but a CAPA or Weibo representative would not have anything to threaten him with: he's a university employee. Whoever did that must have been a government official. It's not hard to see what their motive is either: they are clearly warmongering. That's why they accused him of treason, not merely immoral conduct (it's not like those accusations were any more believable to real fans). He's pretty, the son of a divorcée, and an artist. The perfect whipping boy for someone interested in promoting a jingoistic agenda. Plus, he's dangerously clever: clever enough to see through public facades and throw shade at hypocrites without getting himself in trouble. The problem for that person of course is that he didn't disappear, even Weibo was only partially successful at getting rid of him and he didn't even disappear from television for an unusual amount of time (three years between dramas airing is pretty normal in China). He's still all over other platforms, print media, and radio: and we've been treating subway systems like they were our bedroom walls. They (singular, the government in general seems not to have an issue with him but *someone* within it does) seem to have now realized that they can't make him totally disappear, but they still want to neutralize him as a political threat. Common industry wisdom would be that if fans in one country get cool shows, while fans in another country don't that the fandom will break apart. Then again, common industry wisdom would say we shouldn't be here at all😊. If anything these stripped down shows do a better job of displaying his talent and skill, because of how little room for error there is. *He* is more bummed about not getting to do the flashy fancy stuff than we are. But we will all get our fill of that stuff in Seoul. He won't be able to resist the temptation to show up the K-pop acts😉.
