My sons dad abused him to a severe level he punched him in the head kicked him in the stomach hung him on nails on the wall he's had severe ptsd since he was age 5. He has adhd,autism,ocd,bipolar,anxiety,ptsd,intellectual disability, executive dysfunction and emotional dysregulation he's been on disability since a child but at 19 they did reconsideration for adult benefits which he was just denied for but I appealed and requested a hearing with continued benefits. I can't find a attorney to take us on since we requested continued benefits. I'm not sure how to help in his hearing I'm going to be a representative. My son is still in high-school at age 20 right now and is at a 2nd grade level so I know he won't really understand what's being asked of him or how to answer. What can I do in order to prepare on his behalf?

Make sure your medical records, diagnostics, disability & outcome per Dr opinion are adequately documented. I included a disc file of my long-term disability investigation showing photos of me, medical aids, etc. at my home, down to everything i stated in my claim. Judge had never seen that before. Approved after less than 10 minutes.

SSDI is much easier than SSI. For SSDI you’re simply getting your SS retirement pay early which you have already paid into when working. SSI is supplemental pay and is needs based, and you must provide proof of financial need by submitting bank statements and proof of no real estate ownership.

In March 2024, the SSA sends a Benefit Verification Letter stating that monthly Social Security benefits are to start retroactively from January 2023. SSA begins monthly payments to the person’s bank in April 2024. Questions: When does the TWP officially begin? Is it based on the month benefits are granted (January 2023), the month of the ALJ’s favorable decision (February 2024), or when the actual payments start (April 2024)? What about having worked on big, expensive things like getting a patent for utility company scale power plant that made more deductions than I could have income, while working multiple blue collar jobs to pay all the big bills? I was told by the local SS office to follow the IRS rules in their booklet and what I owed SS would be paid from that. I literally made more deductions than I had income. When SS time came, I'm told I'm 7 quarters short because SS refuses to count all my decades of work to get the patent, and SS disavowed the largest portion of my work outside of the slave work in another man's shop. Also, SS claims I am $1200 short because of the big deductions my work made to pay for all of the invention, design work, and patent. In real time I worked triple yet SS just disavowes most of my work. I am medically qualified after being almost burned to death at 12. So I was 100% disabled since was 12 and SS uses all my hard work against me to rule all I will ever get is SSI which is 50% below poverty.

I’m so confused I applied from my initial SSDI for rheumatoid arthritis at 61 years old in my hands and in my feet I left work in February went on short-term disability that expired so I applied for SSDI the last day of July. I did hire an attorney they didn’t do much but a phone call for me Signing their fee agreement. Well, I got a letter in September after I saw a mental psychiatrist and the letter said I was approved for disability benefits and my first payment will be in a few weeks. I was paid one month SSDI. The next payment is in October they said because there’s a lag month. On the back of the letter it said, however there are no back benefits to be paid to your representative. I never saw a judge. They never contacted me or did anything so what does this all mean? I’ve only received one monthly payment so far. I did call the lawyer. She said it sounds like you’re approved. You’re gonna have to wait five months until they give you the lump sum payout and I just said OK. Later I realized I did probably make a mistake on my application. I’ve been disabled for the past three years with rheumatology in my hands, but the application said first day of onset of illness. In other words what is your first day that you missed work and I put the first day I missed work . So they’re basing my disability on only five months. So will my lawyer just not get paid they didn’t do anything. They made me send them all kinds of forms at my expense $100 worth of faxes I had to send to them and then she wanted me to send all of my answers I sent to SSDI, which I never did And I got approved a few weeks later so I never sent them to her… I’m curious are they gonna come after me for money? I don’t think the judges award the lawyers money we never went to court. I guess I’ll find out eventually.

So what do you do when no Attorney will take your case (I was turned down by about 20 of them)? After digging through my medical records I found medical testing and Dr Assessments that proves the issue. So I've sent that info to the Judge in advance and I am representing myself next week. My conclusion is that I was turned down by the attorneys not because I did not have a case; but because it would be a lot of work to dig up the information to support the case. That the Attorneys are looking primarily for the Slam Dunk or near slam dunk cases.

I have had on going medical issues for years like seeing my cardiologist for 30 years do they get all my records and I have a combination of issues from multiple neck surgeries, shoulder surgeries and currently need two total knee replacements and can’t walk or stand. I’m 58. I have tried to work but haven’t been able to so only can apply for ssi.
