How many Kabocha squash do you get per plant on the bush type? thanks, BOP
@oldmangardening444
@oldmangardening444 28 күн бұрын
I grow 4-5 seeds per bush location. So each vine will grow 3-6 Kabocha squash. I’ll thin out the bush vines at the early stages of growth to three and pick off some baby squash if there’s too many on each vine to 2-3 per vine. The more squash per vine, the smaller they’ll be, so picking some off will let the vine put its energy into the remaining Kabocha squash. Hope this helps. -OMG

Hi, if you live in a hot climate, I suggest planting Papalo cilantro seeds. They’re heat tolerant and do not bolt until late summer and especially when you keep them trimmed down. We do not have to plant any cilantro seeds every year, the ones that sprout up during the Spring in one of our raised beds, we’ll dig up and move to containers.

I would sear up some chicken (salt & peppered first) then add shallots, tomatoes, a little bit of curry powder, red pepper flakes, cumin & fennel seeds, then add a little bit of fish sauce, add water and throw in some kaffir lime leaves to stew for 10 minutes. so yummy

How do you store kabocha to last so long?
@oldmangardening444
@oldmangardening444 3 ай бұрын
We store our Kabocha squash in a cool dry place like your basement or garage. They can last anywhere from 6 months to a year if there’s no fluctuations in temperature. If you keep them on your countertop at room temperature, they only last 1 to 2 months. The old man is growing some outside this year (2024) with corn and they doing really well. Update video soon. My buds all fell off after I planted them, otherwise they look great. I have no blooms. Do you think I should return them? Is that normal for the buds to fall off?
@oldmangardening444
@oldmangardening444 4 ай бұрын
Don’t return them; they’ll be fine. I bought 10 plants this year two weeks ago and I cut off all the flowers and flower bud clusters on my mandevilla plants because I want them to put their energy into growing long and healthy vines and shoots before flowering. I use Super Bloom fertilizer from Scott (12-55-6) once a month and my plants always do really well in my long plastic deck containers. I get rid of the old soil and use new soil every year in the containers or else they’ll get too root bound and won’t grow as well. The mandevilla vines grow will 3-4 feet long in my deck containers and have hundreds of flowers and flower clusters. I like to grow them for the humming birds. If you keep up with watering and fertilizing they’ll stay blooming until the winter. Again, don’t worry about the buds falling off; if your vines are healthy, the flower clusters and flowers will come. Thanks for visiting

Yes. Mandevilla vines are fast growing vines if you keep up with watering and fertilization. They can grow 6 to 8 feet or more in a single season if planted in-grown, depending on where you live. But be aware Mandevilla vines will remain smaller in containers or hanging baskets.

😮 Lol. Is this a joke? The roots are sticking straight up nowhere near the water! They sprout and root from the fat/blossom end. No glass is ever needed. It did nothing here. They happily sprout sitting out or in fridge. I usually grab a few already splitting (about to sprout) at the grocery store haha. Being dry in Phoenix I'll sometimes put them in a loose bag for a greenhouse effect. You do not have to wait to plant. They can go directly in soil but I like to have good roots to be sure its growing well. Fungus and rotting can kill new growth so that provides a head start.

I don't know what Zone you are but here in 7a we get some years late frost . What can be done if I plant in ground?
@oldmangardening444
@oldmangardening444 6 ай бұрын
It’s zone 5b here in southern New Hampshire. Your bonfire patio peach tree should be fine to plant in ground early spring to early fall. Don’t worry about the frost. It’s a peach tree, so it’ll tolerate zones 5-8 weather. In early Spring when the trees start to bud, I’ll prune back the dead branches and fertilize near the roots and it’s all set for the season. Thanks for visiting.

The first year of planting my patio peach trees; they had flowers and some fruit, but most were small and dropped of. The second and third year the trees started to have more consistent full sized peaches that stayed on the trees because I’ll pick off the smaller ones to keep the weight down on the branches and have the remaining fruit get larger. Thanks for visiting.
