When randori, they struggle with other grips than RANDORI NO KATA. RANDORI NO KATA = single arm lever. RANDORI must be a two-arm lever. I've been training for 20 years, but I still don't understand. :-(

CORRECTION: In order to properly execute this waza, it is not simply a matter of pushing at the chin backwards. First, control the striking arm with a Perry. Secondly, strike hard at the bottom of the chin. Thirdly, cup the chin with your hand and lift it upwards and backwards. That's when you get the Uke to move, off his feet to his heels, and then you have a throw. By the way, what I am telling you is "Traditional Japanese Jiu Jitsu" where Kano created his Judo from.

You've got to love the Dai San it's where the aikido starts but this looked awful. . Crisp and sharp but without power ,presence or posture. .

I've never studied judo, but I'd definitely consider it. As evidenced by this clip, its emphasis on efficiency and its no-nonsense approach to confronting an opponent are impressive.

I think Nariyama Shihan would call this "Yari-dori". There is supposed to be a wopping great blade on one end of the staff and that should make a serious difference to Tori and Uke's movements.... there is a lot more room for error with Jo/ staff techniques.

Alan Smyth it's called jo dori because he is using a Jo.

I don't understand the language but it was clear that he was making a point for you to keep uke's weight loaded on his forward foot.

Wouldn't stepping in between the legs give uke the chance to strike your testicles? I have never seen it taught this way.
