I also saw Greenland in good weather from up high many times - sipping my coffee. But seeing it this way by far tops it, I wished I had an extra engine - just in case!

Wie bist du auf diese Idee gekommen so eine Reise mit deinem Flugzeug zu machen? 😃
@skyrunner18182 ай бұрын

@@gabrielchartrand1278 Actually I do worry about an engine failure and prepared for it. The outfit, helmet and equipment is all preparation for it. I take the remaining risk and flying lower on my sightseeing parts and increasing this risk is just living for a few minutes. I just have to...

OK what's thqnset up? I'm guessing an injected O-360 , constant speed prop, extended range fuel tanks. Anything else?
@skyrunner18186 ай бұрын
Good guess - IO-375, CS-Prop and 15Gal additional fuel in the rear baggage hold. Foam in the wings to avoid sinking after ditching, Other than that just additional equipment like life raft, helmet, tracker, transmitters, tools....

I did not realize the RV-8 has the range to go from Greenland to Iceland. That is more than 700 miles?
@skyrunner18187 ай бұрын
Kulusuk to Reikjavik is only 450 miles, from Narsarssuaq it is 700 miles yes. Doable on standard tanks. I had an additional 15 Gal tank.

I know you are professional, good pilot. Just amazes me. Ur risk mitigation is ironic, you wear special suit for freezing water, but you flew low between ice burg . Just observation. Thanks for putting up video! Great job.
@skyrunner18188 ай бұрын
You're right. Flying low there is an extra level of risk and options are shrinking. But a few minutes I was just living and enjoying, for me it was worth it and accepted the additional risk.
What a video series! I’ve watched it twice now and just amazed! Motivates me even more to do my around the world trip. What kind of equipment did you use to shoot all that and also how many hours flight time of fuel did you carry onboard for that Atlantic crossing? Thanks again for putting this together for us!
@skyrunner18188 ай бұрын
Hello and thanks for the comments. I used GoPro 5 and 10. Additionally an Insta360X3 and a SonyRXVII. Total fuel onboard was 57USG which is good for over 8 hours flight time on reduced power including reserves. That is usually enough to reach suitable alternates on this northerly route.

@@skyrunner1818 very cool thank you for the information, I’m originally from Normandie France and currently based at KJYO, my Musketeer has 59 gallons on board with the O320 around 7.25 gallons per hour I think I could potentially do the same route you did, very motivating and thanks for sharing and please stop by next time you fly over we’re underneath the Dulles Bravo.
