I am not a programmer nor a mathematician but when those golden tests make 300k calculations, doesn't this also slow down the consensus process? Also currently, when those little tiny discrepancies add up, doesn't the consensus math get more and more "desynchronized". Sorry for the dumb questions

To my understanding, these tests run once before publishing a new node version to verify that it (still) behaves correctly.

thank you! I loved the tech deep dives on your channel! :) this reminds me on something: wouldnt it be great if someone from the cardano tech community could produce coherent and high quality videos showcasing all and every CIP? I think people would be more involved in the process if they knew what people are talking about. This could be an ongoing thing but I lack the skills / team to do it. but maybe this could be an idea for you guys, maybe even with help from intersect :)

I've just started looking at Cardano. Not so much a criticism but observational feedback. I find it unusual that we are using binary placement values vs something like pure JSON for representation. I know it's more efficient to use binary but with compression and modern cpu horsepower available, it seems strange to me to use binary. I come from the Mainframe/OpenVMS world (yeah, look up the later one!) era, everything back then was binary coded because of space constraints and limited resources but the downside with binary coded values, was that it meant the code itself was locked-stepped to the binary representation, making it cumbersome to change and more error-prone. I know IDE's etc have all sorts of mapping aspects and filters but even so, as someone who came from the old world of binary representation and has seen things move forward to XML / JSON and all the fantastic readability and interoperability those formats have provided, it does seem strange Cardano has opted for using binary as a means of representation. If it was really for efficient space representation, one could go crazy and opt for things like packed decimal. IBM and others used all sorts of representations beyond simple binary 0-9 single place value representation models. Look at some of the comments here, where people are asking for documentation, presumably they want to know the binary mapping values, this would mostly be unnecessary if XML/JSON were used instead of binary as those formats are almost self documenting. I'd love to know why Cardano opted for binary, apart from space optimisation (which is mitigated through compression anyhow, except on the blockchain itself), it seems a strange design decision to me - perhaps if someone can enlighten me?

I’d like to see an analysis of the current/potential performance of Daedalus Turbo in terms of Amdahl’s law. For example, if only 20% of the total validation work can be parallelized, then even if there is a 100x speedup in the parallelizable part, it will still only cut about 20% of the total runtime. Maybe not worth it, considering the other trade-offs. OTOH, if 80-90% is parallelizable, that’s a different story. IMO, such an analysis should be prominently shown by the Daedalus Turbo team, especially since they’re so loudly trumpeting their improvements. By not doing so, they’re creating confusion in the community.

FINALLY I understood what was going on with those scam tokens. I received one just a month ago, and another one last week. They just showed up on my Lace wallet. I obviously ignored them, because I'm not a tech expert, but I'm not a fool either and I checked the official channels of the actual projects the scammers are trying to pass for, and obviously there were no news of referenced to any "reward tickets" or anything like that. But despite reading on several sites that you can actually "claim the ADA the scammers sent you", I couldn't figure out what that meant. Now I finally did. You don't have to "claim" anything. It's THERE in your balance XD 1.15 A for the first one, and 1.21 A for the second one. Sew-eet! So please, stop using the word "claim" to refer to the ADA the scammers are sending, because I'm sure many people will end up clicking on the scam link and getting fleeced!

I can try, but no promises. Low effort production is part of the brand. I do all of my videos in a single take with no post processing sitting in the same room as my server rack. I'd rather be writing code than fiddling with videos.

As Andrew said we will have a few more node releases prior to next HFC event. Don't let that dissuade you. This P2P tech in 8.7.3 needs battle tested on mainnet now. It's already been btfo on the test nets.

Thanks for bringing this topic up and the great content as always! Obviously we don't want a min utxo cost per byte that is so low that it makes it easy for scammers but we do want it low enough to enable new applications on Cardano such as small payments for content. Perhaps this will become a moot point if these types of applications are enabled by Hydra and/or partner chains.
