I love this!! Will add to my coaching!! I've done the base running cycles for a few years. Still one of the best drills we've done.

I'm a middle school coach and I don't usually have enough players at practice to do this drill. Is there a water-down version, like without outfields? I know that high school does do this drill. but they have 2 teams, V and JV.

This drill is way too complicated, or maybe just not explained well enough. I have no idea how to run this drill if I wanted to try.

From my understanding, we always have 2 base runners and we create all possible situations. 1st & 2nd, 1st & 3rd, and 2nd & 3rd. Make sure a bunt defense/1st & 3rd defense is on for each appropriate situation and let the kids play. Make it as realistic as possible. Pitcher pick when they want, let base runners work on diving back to the bag, fielding bunts, backing up bases, etc. Without a doubt, this will be used in my practices this spring.
