Was a global super power, so was dealing more with ministers than consumers. Like today with big mri and CAT systems. from the 70s consumer electronics was much better from 🇯🇵, Korea, China. I was at headquarters and working habits were very lazy. Till the 90s nobody was fired

Don't forget that philips innovated the machines to produce microchips. Now that company is called ASML and it is the only company in the world who can develop and build these unbeliveable important and complex machines

When it comes to design, the entire electronics industry follows Philips' design, which has over 80 years of legacy. They are indeed pioneers in design! Philips invented the Compact Cassette in 1963. On March 8, 1979, a Compact Disc (CD) digital audio system prototype was presented at Philips in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. The first CD player was to be named 'Pinkeltje,' after a well-known friendly gnome from a Dutch children's story. Compact Disk was invented by Philips only; for other technical reasons, they came up with Sony. By the way, all blank media are proprietary to Philips, like CD, CD-RW, DVD, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW. It is impossible to make TVs without Philips components; Philips is the inventor of the color TV picture tube! Philips sold the maximum number of TVs & VCRs in the world! Sony’s owner used to visit the Netherlands to get inspired by Philips; he was dreaming of setting up his own company! Some Philips facts: Philips produces over 2.4 billion incandescent lamps every year, and some 30 million picture tubes; and each day Philips’ factories turn out more than 50 million integrated circuits. Around 2.5 billion heart procedures on X-ray equipment are carried out each year using Philips technology. One in seven television picture tubes contains a Philips picture tube, and 60% of all telephones contain Philips products. Thirty percent of around the world are lit by Philips lighting, which also lights 65% of the world’s top airports, 55 % of soccer stadiums, and 30 % of hospitals. Over 50% of calls made worldwide involve Philips’ technology in the call. Five out of the world’s top ten PC manufacturers sell Philips monitors under their own brand name Philips spends over £25m worldwide every week on R&D, constantly creating new ideas. Total R&D efforts of Philips Electronics amount to approximately 6.7% of sales. 1, 00,000 patent rights. 22,000 trademark registrations. 6,000 design rights. 2 inventions per day! Philips leads in digital television, from inside the TV station to the living room. Philips leads in the color picture tube market. Philips is the world leader in the supply of integrated circuits for PC video captures and is a recognized technology leader in digital video processing. Philips is the world leader in the supply of one-chip TV circuits as well as integrated circuits for tuners in TVs and VCRs. Philips is the world leader in lighting. Philips produced a 100-millionth TV set in 1984 and 300-millionth Philishave electric shavers in 1995. As a technology-driven company, Philips attaches great importance to protecting its innovations by intellectual property rights (IPRs) to secure its investment in research & development. The company’s IPR portfolio currently includes about 70,000 patent rights, 22,000 trademark registrations, and some 6,000 design rights. This is what happens when money people, ie. the MBAs take over a tech company. The same thing happened to AT&T Bell Labs, which later was turned into Lucent. Short sighted MBAs who are only interested in the next quarter destroy great, innovative companies for the sake of lining their own pockets with bonuses.

Well they make shavers, now but still Philips is still on the personal care department, all they need is to acquire the defunct Daewoo Electronics from South Korea now known as Winia as Philips could get back in track in the electronics game, to say so many Western Electronics companies at the time looked for cheap labor in Taiwan and South Korea back in the 1970s and 1980s even Philips made some products in South Korea.

My name is igor belevich. I am 40 years old. I live in belarus. I am from belarus. I saw an analog sw,am-mw,fm radio receiver philips in internet. This radio receiver philips is sold may be on any web sites in belarus for about 139 belarussian roubles. I do not know how much it is in u.s.funds. but may be that sw,mw radio philips is made in china. But it is called:philips. It is famous, known, good brand. I like listening to foreign sw,mw radio stations in russian and in other languages. So it is sad news for me that philips is not doing well now,and may be it does not make good, original, cheap,sw,mw,lw radios any more. May be i will buy that sw,mw radio philips that i saw in internet in belarus. But the cost is too high for me.i also saw sw,mw radio receiver philips with a digital display for 199 belarussian roubles.but i am afraid that it will break soon. May be ,inside these radios philips there is a thread or string that turns tunning wheel and the thread or string will tear in two. I have analog sw,mw,fm radio sony icf 704 s,made in china, but instruction manual says measured by jeita japan. Sony is also brand, like philips. Unfortunately, most world brands stopped making analog sw,mw,lw radios.

My first decade was in the field of high speed instrumentation. But toward the 3rd decades of my career, I decided to switch gear completely into consumer software products. I was doing something completely abhorrent to fellow engineers who view consumer market to be beneath them. I took my company public 6 years later. None of my former contacts had a clue of what i was doing. and it puzzles them to this day. I suspect Phillips was a victim of this kind of close minded thinking: hardware not software makes the company. Wrong.

My father worked for Philips in Germany and he was saying that once the so called "managers" started leading the company evrything started to fall appart , everyone saw it coming except the "Managers" who where just there to feel their pockets take all the bonuses and kill everything Philips was standing for . Indeed sad story and example how modern Managers are killing companies and family traditions realying on charts and numbers and not facts and true knowlage for their own profit and welth .
