Good video comparison - you get what you pay for in this instance. Curious what you've noticed with wind noise and range loss with just the racks alone (without the Front Runner).

What's the weight difference of the actual hardware (not load capacity) between Tesla and aftermarket hardware?
@lostnihonjin14112 жыл бұрын
The weight was similar between the two, although the build quality was noticeably worse on the aftermarket racks. Rough edges on the base, paired with the lack of a locking mechanism, made me doubt the long term usability. I’d recommend going with OEM and having a quality crossbar set. The aftermarket ones may save you half the cost, but I wouldn’t trust it to align properly with the integrated attachment points under the glass roof.

How much did you have to pay on Delivery day?
@lostnihonjin14113 жыл бұрын
Tesla actually withdraws from your bank account before you pick up the vehicle. I’ve heard of folks bringing a check on delivery day, although I wanted to ensure that everything went smoothly when I picked up the car. I put $5000 down, and I believe around $500 in tax and registration fees were added to that. Being a former finance manager at a major car dealership, I was amazed at how easy and efficient Tesla was on delivery day. I was accustomed to at least 40 mins in the finance office, but most forms were pre-signed via DocuSign and from what I can recall, three paper forms where only my signature was needed. (Mostly DMV forms) Hands down, it was the best delivery experience I’ve ever had.

@lostnihonjin14113 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback! I shoot in S-Log3 on a Sony A7 III with an f/1.8 prime lens, which gives me the ability to have better control in regards to dynamic range. (i.e. decreasing shadows and increasing contrast) While editing, I specifically chose this style of videography since it wasn’t crucial to show the inner wheel well linings. I’m fairly confident that the Sony A7 III is a capable camera and in this case, the intention was to have a darker contrast.

These were actually sent to me by mistake as I ordered black ones, so I have no idea which brand they are. I have color matched mud guards I’m going to get around to installing soon. I’m positive you’ll be able to find these almost anywhere as the quality was not too great. They are just wrapped in a cf design over a plastic shell.

How long does it takes them to ship ? I just ordered mine.
@lostnihonjin14113 жыл бұрын
It depends on how quickly they can get their previous orders out. I had to wait over a month for my order to ship. It seems like there are shipping delays from their manufacturer overseas. Because our US exports have been drastically reduced due to limited plant production within the US, there is a shortage of shipping containers leaving Asia. We aren’t sending enough back. This doubles the cost to ship containers and also results in slower transit times due to reduced workforces at US docks receiving them. Hopefully you’ll get it in a month or so!

Love the Rimetrix looks but having hard time justifying paying $300 for plastic caps. Are the aero caps from Tesla or after market?
@lostnihonjin14113 жыл бұрын
The price was hard to justify, although they do provide protection for the wheel’s outer edge and in contrast to buying new wheels with tires/TPMS sensors, it comes out more affordable. They are definitely well made and far superior to your average Walmart hubcaps. I ordered the aero caps from Tesla. I don’t trust too many third-party knockoffs. They may look similar, but they are usually lacking in build quality or fitment and I end up paying more for a replacement or the actual OEM product.
@BhProp3 жыл бұрын
@@lostnihonjin1411 I am considering the same exact wheel options you are currently using, aero caps and Rimetrix. Am curious which you drive with most often and do you find the $300 for Rimetrix worth it
@lostnihonjin14113 жыл бұрын
I liked the aero caps, although I was always worried about curbing the wheels. I’m normally very careful, but it only takes a narrow 90 degree turn to damage your wheel. I don’t believe Rimetrix’s claims of gaining efficiency, although some users have validated that it gets better Wh/mi vs open wheels. (More so on highways) I also wanted the wheels to be black like the rest of the chrome delete on the car. (I even chrome deleted the emblems) Makes my car a bit more unique as I see a lot of Model 3 owners in Hawaii take off their wheel covers. Another plus with the Rimetrix covers is an illusion of 19” wheels while retaining the ride comfort of 18’s. I found it worth to be the $300. The benefits outweighed the overall expense for my needs.

The footwell lights on both the driver and passenger sides are not activated, but there are puddle lights under the doors. The OEM LEDs are just pretty dim compared to these aftermarket ones.

I have a set on order for our Model Y. I have seen some M3 owners complain about some "nubs" on the outside of the covers that can scratch the wheels. Did yours have those?
@lostnihonjin14113 жыл бұрын
I’ve taken off the covers a few times and haven’t noticed any scratches on the wheels so far. Maybe they’ve corrected the issue? It is a tight fit, although the OEM covers were much harder to remove.
@thomasjacques52863 жыл бұрын
@@lostnihonjin1411 hopefully they were able to make a running change to their manufacturing process. But when I get mine I’ll closely inspect them before I install them. I can’t wait to see the new design for the Model Y. I hope they mimic the 20” Induction wheels.

@@lostnihonjin1411 NP! BTW: It looks like the design of the rims has changed for the better. Compared to the picture in the Tesla shop (shop.tesla.com/product/model-3-aero-wheel-cap-kit) . The braces on the new (Refresh rims) look thinner, more elegant while the transition of the "Vs" to the center is sharper, not that much rounded on the edges which leads to more "depth" in relation to the caps. This is quite interesting since I think that might be the reason why the new caps look not _that_ good on the image of the shop (old rim, maybe a bit over exposed, shown there) but look very sexy on your new rims. You can check out videos from people installing the older cap sets for the pre-refresh rims for the sake of comparison.

Thanks so much! I use a Sony A7 III full-frame mirrorless camera (former Canon 5D MkII user) with a shallow depth-of-field 20mm f/1.8 lens and a Shure VP83 condenser shotgun mic. In this video, I had the autofocus set to a wide area, so without a fully exposed face, the AF tended to focus on whichever object was closest. The blur is nice, but only when it focuses on the right subject! haha, I’ve changed it to a smaller zone in the center and it’s much better now.

The charging adapter is included with your home charging kit and is used for most non-Tesla charging stations. A problem some Tesla owners face is other EV owners unplugging your charger to charge their car. This part fixes that issue.

How long did it take you to get assigned a vin from order date ?
@lostnihonjin14113 жыл бұрын
I was actually very fortunate to match with a VIN the very next day after my approval. My particular car must have been part of the last batch before the CA plant shutdown last month. Tesla locally has been working on speeding up delivery times. The day after I picked up my car, the advisor informed me that they were planning on using an open parking lot at the beach to deliver the waiting Teslas to their new owners.
@lostnihonjin14113 жыл бұрын
At the time of approval, Tesla had availability within 1-3 weeks. It appears that orders have been at record highs and their supply cannot currently meet the demand. The staff at Tesla were telling me that the car was PDI’d and ready to go, with the exception of needing temporary tags from the city. They were setting me up for a delivery a week from my original delivery date. In my case, my specific car was already on-island. I believe the current timeline will be realistic, especially with the limited number of chipsets available. Hopefully everyone with orders will get them sooner though, Apple style!
