Slurping doesn’t mean “thank you” It means the food is SOOOO good that you can’t wait for it to cool so you’re forced to slurp to avoid burns. This reflects the quality of the dish and the noise let’s chefs know that they did great!

ok so lets be clear, if your in Asia where ppl slurp you slurp, but if you are in Europe you dont slurp. Easy
@charumathis50292 жыл бұрын
Not that simple...in many Asian cultures (especially in the South east) and subcultures, slurping is considered rude and off-putting. On the other hand, the slurping sounds that noodle commercials make is for the benefit of the westerners and the western-influenced who enjoy their gravies...At the same time snobbish European/American families cannot stand a peep at the table, whereas in Asia it has a lot to do with where in the social hierarchy the culture stands....so not simple...thing is westerners are stereotyped as folks who could be insensitive or ignorant or even deliberately disrespectful of other cultures...which is why when they actually integrate well, they're treated with great respect. Being open is key, and works everywhere except for snobs and bullies

I worked with a Vietnamese guy that would slurp, smack, and talk with food in his mouth. He made one of the girls in the office throw up and she had to move offices further down the hall

I'm Vietnamese but was taught to use dinner etiquette in Western style since my mom and dad used to live in the EU. So I find people making sounds while eating really disgusting. Of course, it's not the sound when you eat something crunchy. Just don't talk while your mouth is full of food and smack

I know right I seriously would have to wait until everyone else was done eating before I could sit down and eat. Their is always going to be that douche ☝ that has to point out that it's normal for them to eat this way. Eventhough that's already been pointed out, so we already know that's. It doesn't make it any less annoying/disgusting to us.

slurping the noodles is considered good manners in Japan as it shows you enjoy the meal, so don't roast the Japanese guys in the video, though their slurping is a bit over the top.

Hehehe - very stereotypical look at Japanese manners and 'manner'. I've been to Japan and I seriously doubt there are many who would react in such a harsh way to another's lack of knowledge. They might laugh a bit perhaps, but frown so much on the poor man - naaah! Great clip though
