it is a shame that the series was written season after season and not all together would have avoided many mistakes, for example here Raymond says that he only has one friend (we are in the season) but it is not true because we discover that there are Ilya and Ivan who moreover Dembe knows too

I think it's more of a fact like dembe build it a bond with him without wanting anything in return like it was pure selflessness it was a exchange of I'm willing to protect you even from yourself it's kind of like that in my mind so maybe that's why he truly views him as his only real friend not like okay everybody has a friend but he truly views him as a real friend to the definition of the word
