Hi Dylan , I was wondering its my first year teaching IED from PLTW my question for the crank Handle , guides and cams are all 3D printed or were purchased ?

@@AlexisBravo-n6i hey Alexis! I actually ended up creating these parts. If you give your students the parts (such as box w holes cut out, axle, follower rods) then they can reverse engineering the other needed parts (cams, guides, follower tips, crank arm, etc.) based off the measurements from the dial caliper.

I followed your instructions until it cut out. But for the life of me I can't make my circle "fully defined" It stays blue instead of turning black. Can you tell me how to make my circle fully defined?
@DylanRainbolt25 күн бұрын
@@moodberry absolutely! You would want to ensure that it is coincident to the origin point (within the circle sketch, type Alt+C and type in coincident. After select the origin point of the circle and then the origin in the part studio). Finally, ensure you have dimensioned the circle by applying a dimensional constraint to it. If you go back into the sketch and don’t see a dimension constraint for the diameter of the circle, simply press “d” on your keyboard to bring up the dimension took shortcut. Click on the perimeter of the circle and then you can type in the preferred diameter dimension. Hope this was helpful!
@moodberry25 күн бұрын
That helps but I don't understand what coincident to the origin point means. Can you expand please?
@DylanRainbolt25 күн бұрын
@ absolutely. You just want to specify the location of the center of the circle in reference to another point or edge. For it to be fully constrained that means its location is specified as well as the actual size of the circle. If you made it coincident to the origin it would share the same location as the origin.
@moodberry25 күн бұрын
@@DylanRainbolt I really appreciate you engaging with me. So, here's what I am doing. I create a sketch and select a plane. I select the center point circle tool. I click on the plane and draw out a circular shape and click again. and enter a number for the circle and hit enter. No problem. Now I have a blue circle that I can move anywhere. The next steps are what are baffling me. The dot at the center of the circle I just made is the origin, right? As you said, I have to specify the center (the dot) to be in reference to another edge. So what would be another point or edge? I typed in the word "coincident" just as you said after alt-C. But if I click on the dot, it just draws another circle! I wish I could show you in a video I make what is happening. I think if I can just get this one concept in my head, I can really get going with Onshape. Your video comes the closest to explaining. I just wish it hadn't cut out prematurely ;(

Hi Dylan, can you please explain how to get the origin in the center of the board? The board that you had at the start of the video was centered at the origin.
@DylanRainbolt2 ай бұрын
Hey Eduardo! If you have the chess board already created, you can use the transform tool in OnShape. Select all the parts you want to move (in bottom left corner of screen) and then select the translate by xyz option. Simply type in the values you’d like to offset the board by in each axis to center it. Hope that was helpful! If you have any other questions please let me know.

So you printed something in the middle of a whole lot of support material, did you not think we would want to see the finished print with that removed?

The student is currently removing the support...we will upload another video after support removal along with one displaying the final paint job. stay tuned @MrDeepwoodtickles !

Yikes… I see it cut off a bit at the end. After hovering over the diameter dimension, just type the number you want to dimension the circle’s diameter to. Then click the green check mark to complete the sketch.

@@DylanRainbolt hey Dylan! sorry for the rudeness of the other guy but i'm honestly a noob and need help. I understand that i can change the dimensions right after i created the sketch. But is there a way to change the diameter aftwards? I Mean after i draw the circle.
@DylanRainbolt4 ай бұрын
@@DruckLuc absolutely! While still in the sketch, click on the dimension once then press the delete key on the keyboard! That will remove the dimensional constraint. After, press “d” on the keyboard or find the “dimension tool” and then you can click on the circle to set the dimension! If you have issues deleting the dimension, more than likely you are not in the old sketch.
