TY. I have not even opened shipping box of my new copy. So I was wondering what was in it. LOL. I played Divine Right back in High School along with D&D, 78-84. Including alot of Dragon Magazines extra rules over those years. Great game. I have all 3 versions, original(1979) , the 25th anni year version(2002), and this new one.. I was interested in what the "rules" were, for this new version. And this game was/is great for making "house rules" if you played it true multi-player (3-6) a few times with the same people.

We tried LoD about two years ago, using both the older print edition and online material, and like others found it lovingly constructed but overly dense and a bit clunky. All the bookkeeping made quests long and a campaign unthinkable. (we also found dice too random for events and substituted a card-pull system instead>) That said, we really liked the direction of the game and hoped a more polished version was possible. I'll be curious what you think of this latest version.

Have you had a chance to play this with two players? How do you think it is as a 2 player game?

Thank you for telling us your experiences with this book und the campaign you played. I've just read the book for the first time and I'm looking forward to try the scenarios. Your tips are helpful too. Will you make another trial sometimes? Maybe the player could insert some breaks between two scenarios when the status of his team is getting to bad, and maybe it could be given the chance to find some new members for his warband, when his warband numbers are less than half of the starting number? This could be explained by meeting someone from another team that was destroyed and distributed by creatures. I like this book for the many possibilities in creating a campaing.

Thanks so much for the kind words, Nevin. You've done a great job presenting the game. Your description of the Strike mechanism, for example, is so simple and clear... something that has seemed to trip folks up. I'm glad your group's had fun with it... and you're so right that you need to have the right crew when you sit down to play. I think the fact that it's a fantasy game has drawn folks from the Euro world into our secret wargaming society, resulting in a clash of gaming cultures. Luckily a few have stuck around long enough to get a taste of what wargaming can offer. -Chris

Chris, your game is great! Good balance between accessibility and possibilities. This makes the game better for non-hardcore players. The box is full of joy and quality. It has become one of my favorite board games right away. I am waiting for the expansions and even if they don't come it is still great! Thanks!

Recently got BB, just after Christmas. Upon opening the box, I found that there was a lot of stuff that really rubbed me up the wrong way, so I was prepared to try and re-sell. It was with considerable annoyance then, when I realised that it’s bloody fantastic 😡!!! I replayed the learning scenario 6 times just to see how variable the games mechanics and tactics could, and every play-through gave me a different outcome. It’s like a fantasy panzer blitz! In the couple of weeks before BB arrived, I’d been playing Divine Right. DR is conceptually far superior to the painful lack of creativity shown in BB (Vikings? Really? And while I’m at it, where ARE the fjords in Fjordland?), and I had a full game up and running right away, but I struggled with some annoying gaps in the rules. The map scales are quite similar between the games, but I found that BB offered many more strategic opportunities over surprising small areas. Part of this is down the avoidance of army stacking. This allows for a sacrificial style of play rather than DR’s fragile, high-risk, teetering stacks.
@moellerc118 күн бұрын
Ha ha! Glad you stuck around, Zakalwe. The Fjordlanders resent being called vikings! And they point out that, while the broken coast is filled with Fjords, such minor geographical features obviously disappear at a scale of 1 Imperial League per hex. Well, obviously. -Chris
@Zakalwe-0118 күн бұрын
@@moellerc1I’m sitting here looking at BB, set up on a table for tomorrow 😄. For me, more unique and surprising factions would have turbocharged BB through the roof (I’m thinking of the strangeness of Melniboné and the Young Kingdoms, something that DR captures more of), but that’s not stopping this being the most interesting war game I’ve played in a looooong time. Could be the surprising RTS vibe? Not sure, but there’s some sort of X factor going on here. And phenomenal job on the artwork, format and production, Chris. It’s gorgeous.
@moellerc118 күн бұрын
Thanks Zakalwe! My take on fantasy is less psychedelic than Moorcock’s or Fritz Lieber, at least for this game. Closer to Tolkien, Martin (what I think of as “historical” fantasy) and of course Dungeons and Dragons, that giant presence growing up. -Chris

Love the mounted map and upgraded cards. I’ve got the original TSR edition. Played it a couple of times, back in the old days, but to be honest I mostly used it as a campaign setting for a D&D game.

I got the second printing with all content a couple weeks ago, and was lucky to have time to learn & play. The rule book isn't perfect, but it's not that bad. (I never tried first printing) Its a heavy game at first, but once you get the flow of all the admin stuff, it plays pretty smooth. I've only done 4 quests so we'll see how it holds up.

Thank you for posting these Divine Right videos. I've got the original and the anniversary edition. Haven't played in years, and when we attempted to learn the anniversary edition, a friend and I had difficulties. It looks like these rules are much better organized. Really appreciate that the board kept the feel of the original. It looks bigger and nicer than the '79 edition. And it's great to see that much of the artwork by David Trampier was preserved. For anyone who loves his style, he also did the tokens for Avalon Hill's Titan boardgame. This looks like a great blend of updating the game and honoring its legacy.

It shows you are supposed to gain an xp and a loot for each monster defeated during the round. So in multiple monster scenarios you should be getting the loot and xp for each one you are defeating, not just based on defeating everything in the room. There are a lot of caveats in the booklet that aren’t made clear due to wording and the training videos miss stuff too but overall its a fun game. It would be really useful to have a cheat sheet of the back of the booklet for each player and the status effects and functions.
