Another tip: unloading dusty product (cement) into rail cars with no dust collection. Run lots of top air (no aerators) so you don't stir up the product, keeps the dust to minimum until the very end. You want the top air to push the product and just enough line air to keep it moving.
@chrisriley7517 Жыл бұрын
Yep, back when I hauled pebble lime and guy taught me how to do this. Sure saves a lot of time and wasting of product, not to mention the laborious task of unhooking and dumping those heavy hoses.

One thing I’m having an issue with working with older unmaintained tanks is the aerator cups actually being so full and clogged that air won’t flow proper causing issues to fully unload a hopper. I could use some advice on cleaning them properly if you have any advice
@strpped3792 жыл бұрын
Honestly, nothing beats regularly cleaned aerators. I had to learn to take them apart and put them together when they werent working ideal 400 miles from our yard. Some guys run the aerators while getting washed out but depending on what you haul I try to keep them dry dry dry!!!
@kyler70242 жыл бұрын
@@strpped379 oh I hear ya i gotta keep ‘em dry as well. hauling lime and cement I’d like to learn how to do so but can’t seem to find any advice on how to do it. I had a guy tell me that there’s nothing wrong it just means there’s product in the aerator line. But there’s definitely an issue if I gotta build pressure and try to empty a hopper 3 times before she even sounds empty. There’s nothing worse then not being able to get all the way empty.
@strpped3792 жыл бұрын
@@kyler7024 ooooohhhh, definitely sounds like your hoses to the aerator are restricted. Its pretty easy to clean just loosen the hose clamp with a screwdriver or socket. Next time youre empty look down in your tank and see if old product has caked on the walls. I have 1 vid posted where a guy is inside the pneumatic pressure washing it after a bunch of mold and cake really obstructed the walls. Thatll hang thousands of pounds of product. @@strpped379 Ive ben doing pneumatics since 1986 cement and related products I go by touch use the airator shut off valves ect. my trailer is empty every load. For what its worth pound with a mallet is not going to out do what the airator is designed to do, to me this doesnt work. For new guys/gals yes use the mallet its going to take a few years before you can really read what the trailer is doing. As far as having a 100% empty trailer your typically going to have residual on every load could be 20lbs or like 50 or so lbs this will not make any difference in the cross contamination department to 30 tons of any cement type , ash sylica ect...products.
@davezarba8853 Жыл бұрын
@@9Crow When you see both guages starting to drop not a slow drift but a more steady drop use your mallet or start using your hand to feel the and hear the echo you will hear that compartments empty move on to the next. When your actually emptying out now run the pressure down to about 4 or 5 lbs listen to the airators they will have a harmonic type pitch at this point. Move to the next listen to the airators should start to sound like the previous compartment now move to the third and last and run this to 0 lbs open the charge valve wide open keep the product valve open walk back to tractor and shut down. You should be totaly empty no product in line . Learn the different sounds the trailer and blower is making. You dont need to run it empty for minutes on end that just prematurly burns out the airators.
@9Crow Жыл бұрын
@@davezarba8853 that could be why most of the airators don't work very well. the last tank emptys out fast the middle and front take longer some drivers are in and out in 30 mins anything over one hour i am supposed to charge extra to the customer but i don't think it is fair if it is on my end it is not the customers fault so i usually don't and it usually takes between 45 mins to 1 hour with a 5 inch trailer pipe and 15 mins longer with a trailer with a 4 inch pipe. if they say no more than 8 lbs psi and it takes over one hour on normally then i charge detention time. we get paid by the load some get paid by the hour. i am unloading into a spreader today it usually takes 32 mins i run 5 pounds to 8 lbs all 3 product valves open i run low pressure so it doesn't blow concrete dust in the air depending which way the wind is blowing i don't want it on me. the dog ears on the tube sometimes leak so i take the time to pre treat it with a little bottle of water in a sprayer bottle i get it wet then connect it i used to pour water on it after it started to leak but that requires gallons of water every week this method requires less water alot less.
