The small fuel can had to be in your hands to be able to be placed on the gunk. Also you can put a door in the trunk. If you have all 5 doors the car will protect you against radiation.

Iirc, the first time you reach a new area you have to use the arc device to return to the garage to map that region, then you can go on another trip and use that area as a path towards your target.

Fyi, when travelling to a zone that's not directly connected to the garage you just drive to the exit. In this case, to get to Sierram you didn't need to activate the arc device at the end.

I'm not sure what the devs plans are for console release. It's been on Steam for a bit, so who knows? They recently had a big update which added multiplayer, so they are still working on things, it seems!
