Please help! The connectors from the red and blue wires burned out along with my defroster. I have the new defroster part but what type of new wire connectors should I use (and where can I get them--no one seems to know)--I assume the connectors will need the same high temperature rating as the wires (125 C).

My defrosted is stuck on an Older Kenmore Frig. I thought that the Bi Metal sensor might be stuck closed, however now with the inside of the freezer panel off, I noticed the heater rods are not getting hot by the fins. Yet, the top and walls of freezer you can feel are getting very (real hot). This is on an older Kenmore Frig. No computer PCBs, LEDs etc. Compressor is on, Evap fan on, but the frig can't get cold enough with the defroster turned on constantly. Any advice welcome. Thanks. Phil

How do I run a diagnostic without a prewash or rinse hold option? These options are not on my Whirlpool Duet front load washer.

So We have had this refrigerator for 10 Years and never noticed this! I just saw it tonight! I flipped out, LOL It is 90 degrees out and muggy Here in Boston. I just went shopping yesterday. I got my 40 gallon tote, and filled it up! My Son lives nearby, and has a deep freezer. I called and Woke Him and My Daughter in Law, and My granddaughter up. It's almost midnight, on a weekday! Me and Michael brought the tote up there and transferred everything! Now We see this! I am SOOOO Glad for this Post! Thank YOU!

Hi I have a GE fridge just like this that keeps burning out the defrost coil, about every 6-9 months. Any suggestions what a good alternate would be that wouldn’t burn up so soon

It's an extremely inefficient way to do it. The fact is it costs like 5 times as much to run a heating element. I mean most other fridges like air conditioning units and heat pumps they simply just reverse the cycle and when the cycle is reversed then the coils will get hot not cold. Extremely inefficient way for a fridge or a freezer 2 defrost itself

what would cause the defrost cycle to stay on too long? mine is cooling / freezing fine and cycling.. but it seems that when it cycles into the defrost mode it is staying on too long and thawing the ice in the ice tray and everything and causing dripping into the bottom of the freezer and out the front of the door onto the floor.. then it all refreezes and the ice in the ice maker tray is frozen back into one big clump. I've replaced all three temp sensors and the thermostat for the heater strip and had to replace a heater strip once already because it burned out. HELP! ? :)

Sounds like a bad door seal. The evaporator, along with cooling, removes humidity. But if ambient air keeps entering frost -> ice will build up faster than it's designed to thaw it out.

I just replaced my heaters, sent as pair. No fun working in that tight space. The easiest job was replacing the defrost timer. The model I own is a 1994 GE. Luckily a supplier on eBay had these.

A smooth and simple explanation. I just replaced mine on a GE double door, and I have noticed the resistor inside the glass tube is totally black. The new one is clear. Why it's black and that black comes from ...?

Hi, do you know the cycle of defrosting in this kind of GE fridge ? does the white thermistor on top of coil measure if it's necessary to defrost or there is timer inside the main board ? how does the fridge know when to defrost ? thank you.
@condor5635
@condor5635 2 жыл бұрын
Typically there’s a defrost timer. Typically they are set to 16 hours or so. Some of them measure of how often the door is open I think. If the doors not open you obviously don’t need to defrost as much because no moist air is getting into the freezer. Yes this cycle happens once every day on your typical refrigerator

The thermostat,. or bi-metal, on my GE refrigerator was busted wide open so, I replaced it. It was not easy to replace because I could not move my torso into the freezer compartment. I also replaced the 9-year-old defrost lamp even though I did not actually diagnose as a failed unit. I'm a subs-killed DIY appliance repair person.

Thanks for this Rich! I just looked at the back of my freezer and was thoroughly confused as to why in the world it was glowing. I remembered hearing from Technology Connections about "frost-less" freezers so I googled "GE fridge defrost cycle" and this showed up. Today I learned that's how the defrost cycle works. Guess I'd always assumed it just let it warm up with ambient air.

If the defrost heater goes bad the evap coils will get packed with snow and the freezer/refrig won't keep cold due to the snow blocking airflow.

*I purchased this because I was not happy with an expensive front load machine=>>**allmy.tips/WhirlpoolWasher?a170** that my nephew gave me. I was hesitant about getting another one without an agitator and with a low water wash but I am very happy with this machine. It takes a lot less time to wash a load of clothes and they come out really clean. I was a little disappointed because there is not softener dispenser and the machine is in my basement so I cannot keep running down to see when to add the softener (I walk with a walker) but I will just use dryer sheets. My brother is now using the front loader but I am looking into purchasing another Whirlpool when that one goes!*

You must be the boss lol, it's a Whirlpool not a Maytag and the MCU is a VFD not an inverter. 35 years working in the field as a robotics engineer taught me to differentiate between a good tech and a desk jockey. Nice try but your title should be shotgun fail because you did zero diagnostics and didn't fix anything. 50/50 MCU / CCU? so you've never seen a poor communication cable connection, bad communication cable or failed motor? Motor resistance across the each of the three delta windings should be 6 Ohms that would be your clue you're dealing with a VFD not an inverter. This video does nothing for the DIY repair individual but waste their money buying an expensive component that may or may not be bad.
@GoGoGadgetGiveadamn

How would you isolate if it is the CCU or the MCU? Motor can be checked for resistance and wiring can be checked for continuity, that I understand
@cbocker
@cbocker 5 жыл бұрын
This guy is not a tech! He is a PART REPLACER! Funny that he starts by replacing the most expensive parts in the entire washer. This is a communications problem between the main control unit on top and the motor control unit in the front left corner. Communication problems are not boards gone bad, but the connections between the two. See the following repair for what a real appliance tech would have done. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iImrZoCNr799ga8

By inverter, do you mean the MCU, or Motor Control Unit (actually never heard it called an inverter before). And the upper unit is called the CCU not CPU, lol.

I had this set of symptoms: I was getting the F-11 Code when the washer first started filling the water, and before the drum started turning, in a regular washing cycle. When I ran the diagnostic test, I would get the F-11 code at the C:03 step, and the drum would not move. I ordered a new Motor Control Unit (MCU) and swapped it out as this person did, and the washer works properly now.

Resolder the relays on the CCU. Fixed. Look for "micro" cracks in solder.
@fredmalito9869
@fredmalito9869 3 жыл бұрын
For anyone watching in the future, those relay contacts can also deteriorate. Removing their covers and cleaning the contacts will fix this for a while. Swapping out the two relays one to another, as one has high current and one has low current, will fix the problem for a longer period of time. This will require some soldering skills. The relay that has lower current going through it does not corrode nearly as badly.

Hi, thank you for your video. I just replaced the heating element on my refrigerator because it was freezing up completely and the right side was warm, not cooling. I did some research and found out the heating element could be the problem. I just installed the new heating element but it didn’t turn on. My question is: Is it supposed to turn on and go red glowing as soon as I connect the refrigerator? Or it turns on automatically every 8 hours as you mentioned on the video? Just wondering!!! Thanks!!!!

I just saw this in our double door GE. We just moved into a condo and have never had a double door before. I can actually see the hot coil through the vent from the inside of the freezer. Scared me to death. Also when this was happening, the freezer got to about 39 degrees and the fridge got to about 50 which is both in the unsafe range. We have noticed that tomatoes and grapes are not as cold and crisp and that the things runs a lot. We have too many things that need repair here and worry about asking the management for more as we are new. Is it normal for the temp to temporarily go up and then reset as it did? Can food go bad from it? Is there ever a fire worry about this? Our daughter sleeps in the room behind the fridge. It seems odd to me to actually have a vent into the freezer where a hot coil sits for that long. Thanks.
