I like the urban city center location of this football ground, also that high-rise building in the background ads a lot to the scenery of the spectators watching a game at Schützenwiese. Nice aerial footage in your film.

This Belgian ground looks like it has undergone a lot of recent development and enlargment. I like how it still has three different and distinct stands and is not (yet) a "soulless bowl".

The goal is to soon start the renovation of the historical stand 2 (after settling a dispute between the club owner and the land owner). Even though the stadium will become even larger and more comfortable, it will also become a classic modern football stadium.

Apparently the City of Kaiserslautern decided itself to take back their initial bid to become a host city. It was estimated that the costs for organizing the event would be too high (e.g. safety and personnel costs).

@@Stadiumsfromthesky There are also other stadiums that hosted the 2006 World Cup and were excluded, such as Hannover and Nuremberg. Excluding him was a strange decision not to play Euro matches!!!

There is only so many cities that can host the EURO of course. If I look at the current stadiums in the list, maybe you could change one of the three stadiums in Cologne/Düsseldorf/Gelsenkirchen for a stadium in another city. But then again, you would lose quite some capacity. Because all the largest stadiums are represented in my opinion.

Gutted I only got to see half a game here having got my times mixed up and having arranged to meet my parents 'after' the game. Quite novel to see everything zebra fide including the scoreboard and team coaches 😊

From my point of view, the Ellenfeldstadion is one of the most beautiful and iconic stadiums across Germany. It's totally unique and charming. In other words, the exact opposite of these frosty and soulless modern 'arenas' in professional football made of steel and glass. The stadium's club, Borussia Neunkirchen, has even played in the Bundesliga here once upon a time. This took place in the 60s. Sadly, this club has experienced a huge decline within the last five decades and is now playing in the sixth(!) tier, the Saarlandliga, a league which features regional clubs from the Saarland only, which is one of the smallest German federal states right next to the French border. Luckily, I've already been there when my local club, Wuppertaler SV, had a play-off away match here for promotion from the fourth tier to the third tier. Even if more than 20 years have passed since then. These lovely and steep standing terraces which look a bit decayed (but still in a quite good shape regarding their age) were awesome and you can literally smell the history inside this stadium. I hope it will never ever get demolished as a piece of German football history despite the club's poor performance on the field today and therefore low attendances.

Thanks for your nice input! As a non-German, my question is how this club was able to play in the higher tiers in the past (money/city proximity)? Is it because money wasn’t important back then (but still where did the players come from) or was there some money coming from the industry of Saarbrücken? Still a wonderful stadium!
