I also was a long term Forester. Years ago I our idea of management was to hit the ASQ assigned by Congress. A mature forest is a complete ecosystem. I saw Mount St. Helens explode. I heard it. Did clear cuts. Gradually changed to partial cuts and then thins.

There is too much management in forest management. Nature does very well on its own.
