Great storytelling. I fled Vietnam by boat at the age of 14 in 1981 to come to America without my parents and was placed in a foster care system. I had to learn to be mature very quickly on my own and appreciate what America offers. I joined the Navy right after college in 1990 and retired after 30 years of service. I was a devout Catholic growing up in Vietnam and drifted away from my faith when I came to America but had a profound conversion experience 16 years ago, so I am now a born-again Catholic.

Hinduism is forcefully termed as a religion. But it is a philosophy and rather a way of life. Just follow morality. And it accepts you even if uou are theist or even atheist.

I just read this wonderfully succinct yet richly drawn double biography. If you want to know what makes Filipinos tick beyond their love of a specific singer or any genre of music, this book is an invaluable key. Prof. Tongson is an incisive, gifted and elegant writer. I hope to hear again from her soon. Perhaps about Filipino Diaspora - a long, complicated, dynamic history and its impact in every corner of today's world.

Wait, back then in the 1990s, Buddhist studies as a field is a bunch of machismo men stabbing each other in the back so they can publish first on compassion? this is very quotable!

Do you study all the horrors, misery and death perpetrated in the name of religion? Like burning witches and "heretics" at the stake? Or the extent to which religion is forcibly and dogmatically imposed on people including the forced conversions of indigenous peoples. I'll bet that's not in your curriculum.
@MindChamber2 жыл бұрын
you dont need religion to empathic, and human. Religon has been used for nothing but Pain, Segration and Death.

And oppression and slavery. That never seems to get talked about in RE class. In defiance of history they focus on the warm and fuzzy stuff and then claim they are being "unbiased".

Allah revealed this to me: "Islam is the fastest imploding religion in the world, as more and more Muslims are realising that Mohammad and others (breakdown given below) fabricated the Quran to persue their own personal agendas. Islam is nothing but 7th century Arabic tribalism. Muslims are much better and bigger than this oppressive ideology. I love all Muslims as people, but dislike the Supremisist Quranic Ideology they follow". 1000% support to all Ex Muslims, from 7 billion of us (includes many Muslims)...Lovers of Truth. Breakdown of Quranic inputs as reaveled to me by Allah... 10% Mohammad 30% Plagerised from Christian, Jewish and Pagan texts. 58% Added on after Mohammad. 1% by Satan ( Mohammad himself reaveled this. He later removed them). 1% Eaten by a goat (as reaveled by Muhammad's wife Ayasha...he married her when she was 6years and he was 53years). 0% by Allah. 👍

It is interesting how a lot of this boils down to a kind of standpoint theory. That's not really present in his published work.

Dr. Aslan should realize that the reason Pantheism is not successful in idea of worshiping is the fact that, that kind of God which is equal to all, could not be used as a character in a narrative.

Why would God be with the Dead? God is with Dead People? Makes no sense! It is like looking for God in a cemetery! Wait, is that why we see Ghosts in Cemeteries and dead old houses? Ghosts feel no pain or suffering, know no hunger or thirst! And they "live" forever! Heaven! Clearly God is with the Living! God is with US!

@@socksumi Right, so religions promising an eternal life are cheating their followers These fools will end up as Ghosts Yes they will get their eternal "life" Get to live in a Mansion - old, creepy and dusty but a Mansion No work, no worries No pain, No suffering No hunger, no thirst And since they are already dead, they will get to "live" forever! One day the Sun will gobble up the earth, even the sun will burn out one day and even the universe will be a cold, dead place But these Ghosts will be still hanging around where the Earth once used to be So much for Greed overtaking common sense and intelligence
