Great storytelling. I fled Vietnam by boat at the age of 14 in 1981 to come to America without my parents and was placed in a foster care system. I had to learn to be mature very quickly on my own and appreciate what America offers. I joined the Navy right after college in 1990 and retired after 30 years of service. I was a devout Catholic growing up in Vietnam and drifted away from my faith when I came to America but had a profound conversion experience 16 years ago, so I am now a born-again Catholic.

Hinduism is forcefully termed as a religion. But it is a philosophy and rather a way of life. Just follow morality. And it accepts you even if uou are theist or even atheist.

I just read this wonderfully succinct yet richly drawn double biography. If you want to know what makes Filipinos tick beyond their love of a specific singer or any genre of music, this book is an invaluable key. Prof. Tongson is an incisive, gifted and elegant writer. I hope to hear again from her soon. Perhaps about Filipino Diaspora - a long, complicated, dynamic history and its impact in every corner of today's world.

Do you study all the horrors, misery and death perpetrated in the name of religion? Like burning witches and "heretics" at the stake? Or the extent to which religion is forcibly and dogmatically imposed on people including the forced conversions of indigenous peoples. I'll bet that's not in your curriculum.

Why would God be with the Dead? God is with Dead People? Makes no sense! It is like looking for God in a cemetery! Wait, is that why we see Ghosts in Cemeteries and dead old houses? Ghosts feel no pain or suffering, know no hunger or thirst! And they "live" forever! Heaven! Clearly God is with the Living! God is with US!

One day the Sun will gobble up the earth, even the sun will burn out one day and even the universe will be a cold, dead place But these Ghosts will be still hanging around where the Earth once used to be So much for Greed overtaking common sense and intelligence
