This is a terrible device. This is very uncomfortable for the patient but convenient for the dentist.

At the dentist yesterday and they used this device for the first time with me, I loved it. It prevented the water from going down my throat and making me gag, it kept my wandering tongue from getting in the way, pushed the cheek aside and held my mouth open with ease. I told the dentist that it felt like my mouth wasn't open wide enough but she assured me that it was fine. It made the hard word of reaching the back tooth so much easier and faster. Another great product from Germany! The medium one was used with me. I always hated the other devices they used, especially that horrible rubber dam, ugh.

so with no external exit filter on the mask, you're blowing your germs out from around the mask to others in your environment?

It does not work that way. It's a gentle air flow via a HEPA filter.

@@dentaladvisor9980 Yes, you are exhaling much of your breath and potential germs from around the mask. But it is no different than what is exhaled from fashion cloth masks and surgical masks. These are usually ill-fitting and blow out air on each side of ones nose. That is why glasses fog up..

In actuality yes. Even professional PAPR units such as the well known 3M Versaflow do not have exhalation filters and vent around the perimeter of the face mask or full face shield. If you are concerned with your own exhalation gases, I suggest you wear a full-filtered non-valved NIOSH N95 mask with gasket seal. Avoid any paper mask for it will not give you a total skin to mask seal especially during the positive pressure of exhalation.
